SYNOPSIS
An American history of the world (sad, hysterical and bloody) told through digital music, hip-hop ballet and robot vaudeville -- ROBOTS VS. FAKE ROBOTS is like nothing you’ve seen or heard before. It is the sex dream that a Honda Civic would have, with an epic human drama sprinkled on top for that extra mile of heart.
By the year 6000, robots have almost, but not quite, replaced humans. Robots are young, sexy, beautiful and live in a subterranean world that looks and sounds like a disco. We meet robots called Shoe Horn, Cranberries CD, Neck Brace, and Morse Code. They are vain, shallow, jealous, suspicious, and above all, oblivious to human-style sensitivity. Sex (robot style) is frequent, but love does not exist. Enter Joe (Stephen Frankenfield) and his girlfriend Sammie (Ally Tanzillo). They are among the last humans, living like war survivors on the earth’s surface, sharing their few provisions and their warm feelings for one another. But all it takes for Joe is a couple of chance encounters with sexy female robots who taunt him about his human smell and Joe becomes determined to become a robot (or at least a fake robot).

ERIC ANSON - Knee Pad - is excited to act in his sixth Etcetera production, having previously appeared with the late night series in Killer Joe (Joe), Richard O’Brien’s The Rocky Horror Show (Rocky Horror), The Importance Of Being Earnest (John), Bug (Jerry) and The Baltimore Waltz (The Third Man). You may have also seen Eric on the Mainstage at Live Theatre Workshop last season in What The Butler Saw, Wife Begins at Forty and as the title character in The Unexpected Guest.
SHANNA BROCK - War Propaganda - has previously appeared on the mainstage at Live Theatre Workshop as Sandra (A Thousand Clowns) and Gertie (Wife Begins at Forty). She recently appeared in her first production with Etcetera as Sookie (Mr. Marmalade) and is thrilled to be back onstage with the late-night ensemble. Elsewhere, Shanna has performed with Pistarckle Theater, Gaslight Theatre and Arizona Repetory Theater.
RYAN BUTLER - Morse Code - is thrilled to be back on stage at Live Theatre Workshop after a decade-long absence. Ryan has appeared in productions of The Foreigner (Ellard), Words, Words, Words (Milton), A Christmas Carol (Bob Cratchit) and West Side Story (Diesel). Ryan’s directing credits include An American Millionaire and An Evening at Fleet Street: Highlights from Sweeney Todd. Ryan graduated from Northern Arizona University in 2009 with a M.A. in English Literature and from the University of Arizona in 2005 with a B.A. in Classics and Theatre.
DANIELLE DRYER - Nintendo 64 - has previously performed with Etcetera as Sister (The Eating Disorder Talent Show), The Cactus (Mr. Marmalade), Riff Raff (The Rocky Horror Show), Roberta (Danny and the Deep Blue Sea), Token Dyke (The Importance Of Being Earnest), Cat (Kitty Kitty Kitty), Yitzhak (Hedwig and the Angry Inch - for which she received a 2009 Arizona Daily Star MAC Award nomination for Best Actress), April (Savage In Limbo), R.C. (Bug), Tybalt (Romeo & Juliet), The Dolphin Masturbator (Old Pueblo Playwrights: UNBOUND) and Bottom (A Midsummer Night’s Dream). For Etcetera, Danielle has directed Dog Sees God: Confessions of a Teenage Blockhead and Sweet Eros. In 2008, Danielle graduated from The University of Arizona with a degree in Art History. She can next be seen with Etcetera as Kelly in Dying City.
STEPHEN FRANKENFIELD - Joe - has been appearing on the mainstage at Live Theatre Workshop for over 8 years. Notable productions include The Rainmaker, Barefoot in the Park, Run For Your Wife, Arsenic and Old Lace, Dearly Departed, Caught In The Net, Funny Money, The Mystery Of Irma Vep and most recently in A Tuna Christmas. He has also directed mainstage productions of See How They Run and Moon Over Buffalo. He was last seen with Etcetera in Mr. Marmalade, Fuddy Meers, Corpus Christi and The Big Funk.
AMANDA GREMEL - Choreography / Robot Dancer - was last seen with Etcetera as The Sunflower (Mr. Marmalade), Mara Lynn (White People), Janet Weiss (Richard O’Brien’s The Rocky Horror Show), Lysette (I Wrote This Play To Make You Love Me), Ensemble (The Penis Monologues) and CB’s Sister (Dog Sees God: Confessions Of A Teenage Blockhead). Amanda is Live Theatre Workshop’s Technical Director and co-coordinator of All Together Theatre, the children’s series at LTW. She can next be seen with Etcetera directing the upcoming production of The Little Dog Laughed.
CHRISTOPHER JOHNSON - Direction - is the Artistic Director of Etcetera, the late night series at Live Theatre Workshop where he has directed Killer Joe, Richard O’Brien’s The Rocky Horror Show, Danny and the Deep Blue Sea, The Importance Of Being Earnest, I Wrote This Play To Make You Love Me, The Penis Monologues, Savage In Limbo, Bug, Old Pueblo Playwrights: UNBOUND, A Midsummer Night’s Dream and Titus Andronicus. Miranda recently graduated from the University of Arizona with a degree in Ecology and Evolutionary Biology.
DAVID LARGMAN MURRAY - Playwright - is a graduate of the University of California, Santa Barbara and currently resides in Los Angeles. Robots Vs. Fake Robots has been workshopped at Clubbed Thumb in New York City and The Playwrights Center in Minneapolis, and was first produced with Push To Talk Theatre Company in Santa Monica and later produced at Walking Shadow in Minneapolis. His other plays include the musicals Tomorrowland, and Bermuda! (both collaborations with Bobby Halvorson), Manimals, Bad Memory Mallory, Get Up and Go, Erotic Fiction, and Regina and Ralph are in the Attic. He is the winner of the Young Playwrights Festival National Playwriting Competition, the Corwin Award for Full Length Plays and Musicals, The Dilling Yang Fellowship for Playwriting, and The James A. Michener Fellowship for Writers.
DARLA PETTY - Robot Dancer - is elated to finally be on stage with the Etcetera ensemble after spending much of last season working behind the scenes as videographer, Stage Manager (Mr. Marmalade) and resident Call-Back Trainer / In-House Tranny Consultant (Richard O’Brien’s The Rocky Horror Show).
LUCILLE PETTY - Choreography / Neck Brace - is honored to be a part of the Etcetera ensemble, where she was last seen in Mr. Marmalade (Lucy) and in Richard O’Brien’s The Rocky Horror Show (Rasputina). A regular volunteer at LTW, Lucille has previously served as late-night production stage manager for The Eating Disorder Talent Show, Danny and the Deep Blue Sea, The Importance of Being Earnest and Kitty Kitty Kitty. Not to be contained by Etcetera alone, Lucille recently made her Mainstage debut in the LTW production of Picnic (Millie) and is currently performing in the Winding Road Theatre Ensemble production of Toni Press-Coffman’s Armor. Lucy is the in-house videographer for Etcetera and can be found on YouTube as ‘ALucyInABucket.’ She will next be seen with Etcetera as Alice in The Looking-Glass Opera.
TONI PRESS-COFFMAN - Garlic Press - has performed in Tucson as Isabella Bird (Top Girls), Katherine (A Perfect Ganesh), Bo (Last Night at Ballyhoo), Dorothy (Inspecting Carol), Fanny (On The Verge or The Geography of Yearning), Katerina (Anton in Show Business) and most recently on the mainstage at Live Theatre Workshop as Flo in Picnic. Toni is a founding member of Winding Road Theatre Ensemble, which is currently producing her play Armor, which was developed with a grant from the Sloan Foundation and was the winner of the 2010 Arizona Theatre Company Playwriting Competition. This is Toni’s first appearance with Etcetera.
ALLY TANZILLO - Sammie - was last seen with Etcetera as Kitty Kitty Kitty Kitty in Noah Haidle’s Kitty Kitty Kitty. A long-time student of LTW’s Education Program, Ally is currently a sophomore at the University of Arizona where she is studying Creative Writing. Ally is thrilled to be a part of the Etcetera ensemble.
STEVE WOOD - Shoe Horn - has been engaging himself in a number of roles here in Tucson for three years. Among his favorites are Paul (Barefoot in the Park), Joe (Angels In America: Millennium Approaches) Michael (Tick, Tick...Boom!) and Kitty in the Etcetera production of Kitty Kitty Kitty. Other notable roles include Clive/Edward (Cloud 9), Chris (Killer Joe), John Worthing (The Importance of Being Earnest), Nick Bottom (A Midsummer Night’s Dream), Julian Marsh (42nd Street), Don Pedro (Much Ado About Nothing), Ensemble (All In The Timing), Bruce (Beyond Therapy), Nick (Dirty Secrets) and Jim (The Gayest Christmas Pageant Ever). Steve greatly looks forward to his next project with Etcetera, playing the role of Alex in the upcoming production of Douglas Carter Beane’s The Little Dog Laughed.
