Founded in 2002, "Not Burnt Out Just Unscrewed" (NBOJU) has consistently brought its own brand of short form improv comedy to the best (and not-so-best) venues in Tucson. In 2014, we opened Unscrewed Theater, giving us a permanent stage of our own!
We're looking for team players who know and have a passion for improv. Personalities that have fun and take comedy very seriously! We strive to foster volunteerism in our cast and create a sense of community and with the rest of the theater volunteers. That's a nice way to say we are a 501(c)(3) nonprofit and no one's getting paid!
Audition Requirements:
- Previous improv performance experience
- Previous improv education is strongly suggested
- Availability for full audition period (3 hours)
- Proof of vaccination - see current COVID-19 requirements below*
Audition Content:
- Based on basic improv fundamentals
- Series of short-form games and general scene work in groups and pairs
- Limited audition spaces
- Look for listening, agreement, character, teamwork, emotional connections, and avoiding "going for the joke"
Troupe Requirements: (If selected)
Availability for Thursday night rehearsals, along with Friday and Saturday show nights is required.

- Name
- Contact info (Cell, email, etc.)
- Details of your improv experience
- Classes/workshops taken, teams with which you've performed, etc.
- Proof of vaccination
Headshot and resume are NOT required.
* OUR CURRENT COVID POLICY:
All volunteers, students, and performers at Unscrewed Theater have been fully vaccinated against COVID-19. For the safety of our volunteers and community, face masks are required while inside the theater except when performing on stage or actively eating or drinking.
All patrons aged 12 and older attending Unscrewed Theater in-person shows must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 (with an FDA or WHO authorized or approved vaccine) or provide proof of a negative COVID-19 test within 48 hours of the show.
As a 100% volunteer-run 501(c)(3) community theater, the safety of our Unscrewed Theater improv community is paramount. Our mission is to not only showcase and teach the art of improvisational comedy - but also to foster a safe and supportive atmosphere in which artists can grow and explore their talent.
Since reopening in August 2021, all of our instructors, performers, students, and volunteers are required to be vaccinated against COVID-19. In addition, face masks are worn at all times, except by performers and students when performing on stage.
EFFECTIVE SEPTEMBER 24TH, we will require all audience members to be fully vaccinated or have tested negative for COVID-19 within the last 48 hours.
