About the Festival
Tucson is home to some of the most talented emerging playwrights in the country, and the Young Playwrights of Tucson Competition is your chance to catch their rising voices before they hit the big time.
These student-produced plays are full of outstanding wit, humor, and imagination. Each year, this beloved festival elevates the stories of the next generation of artists — inspiring, delighting, and bringing hope to sold-out audiences.
Under the mentorship of Live Theatre Workshop's professional team, student playwrights, directors, actors, and technicians come together for an intensive week of workshops that culminates in three fully produced performances.
Program Highlights
- Open to students in grades 6–12 for the 2025–2026 school year
- All scripts judged anonymously — every playwright competes on equal footing
- Selected plays are paired with mentoring playwrights for script development
- One-week intensive workshop camp: May 26–31, 2026 (8:00 AM – 4:00 PM daily)
- Three professional performances on the Live Theatre Workshop stage
- Tickets available as an Add-On Production — General Admission $18 | Children (3–15) $15
