About Rosangela Silvestre
Rosangela Silvestre is one of the world's foremost masters of Afro-Brazilian dance. A graduate of the Federal University of Bahia, she developed the internationally acclaimed Silvestre Technique and Symbols in Motion Process — a rigorous movement investigation rooted in the dance of the Orixás, the sacred spirits of the Candomblé tradition.
Based in Salvador, Bahia and the United States, Silvestre has taught and performed across the Americas, Europe, Japan, Africa, and Australia. She has set choreography on companies including Balé Folclórico da Bahia, Cleo Parker Robinson Dance Company, Ballet Hispanico, and Viver Brasil, and toured extensively with jazz musician Steve Coleman.

About Sol Axé
Sol Axé is a Tucson-based community dedicated to Afro-Brazilian inspired drumming and dance, meeting the 1st and 3rd Tuesday of each month at 7:00 PM. No experience is required — instruments are provided and your first visit is free. Regular members contribute $20–$40 on a sliding scale to support space rental, instruments, and residencies like this one.
