da Vinci Players presents tick, tick...BOOM, an autobiographical musical written by Jonathan Larson, creator of mega-hit RENT.

tick, tick...BOOM! is an autobiographical musical written by Jonathan Larson, who would later create the mega-hit RENT. It tells the story of an aspiring composer named Jonathan (also referred to as Jon or Johnny) who lives in New York City in 1990. Jon is worried he has made the wrong career choice to be part of the performing arts.

Faced with the prospect of turning 30 years old in two weeks, Jon feels the mounting anxiety ("ticks") of his lack of commercial success, which he needs to validate an overwhelming passion for his new brand of musical theatre.

The show bears some similarities to "Company," written by Larson's idol, Stephen Sondheim, with both shows ending with the blowing out of candles and the cast singing "Happy Birthday."

This intimate and honest production shows the composer at his most vulnerable moments, revealing his creative genius through a collection of songs and monologues, woven in tightly crafted scenes that feature the few people closest to him.
