Subject: Free Performance: D'FAQ To Life by D'Lo, 11/18

As a part of Transgender Awareness Week 2011, LGBTQ Affairs and Pride Alliance are proud to invite you to a free performance and workshop by D'Lo!

D'Lo is a queer Tamil Sri Lankan-American, political theatre artist/writer, director, comedian, and music producer. Using excerpts from D’s different solo shows, D’FaQTo Life (pronounced De Facto) is roller-coaster ride of emotions with stories executed through stand-up, spoken word/poetry, and theater. D’Lo explores topics relating to South Asia and transgender social justice from the perspective of being a child of immigrant parents, raised in hip hop culture while trying to negotiate how identifying as “queer” intersected with a passion to create political art. This show is not to be missed!

Date: Friday, November 18

Time: 6-9pm

Location: Modern Languages Auditorium at the University of Arizona

In addition, D'Lo is hosting a Queer Creative Justice workshop open to anyone! D’Lo has created this workshop geared specifically for the LGBTQIQTSSGL community with an emphasis on writing and performing around gender presentation and orientation. This workshop is intended for both non-writer and non-actors as well as self-defined writers and actors. For most queer people, being seen as human is oftentimes a daily challenge. The burden of being queer bodied or queer minded causes health issues manifesting in both the mental and physical realms. In this workshop, D’Lo asks participants to be fearlessly introspective around personal health and spiritual growth. The participant will share, write and perform their personal stories, and through a series of creative exercises, will also engage in artistic conversations relating to their unique experience of identifying as queer.
