CHANGING THE VIEW OF NETWORKING

Tuesday, July 12th at 7pm
Connect Coworking, Downtown
33 S Fifth Avenue, Tucson, AZ 85701

The focus for IFA's July 12th meeting is Changing The View of Networking. Most often we talk about core traditional elements of networking, but for our July meeting, we will be expanding our vision and adding new elements to the networking paradigm. Our featured guests, Crown Chimp Films, will share their thoughts, strategies, and approach to networking in the film industry, along with suggestions on "what not to do" when you find yourself ready to present yourself and your projects.

Also at the meeting we will have special guests from Monsoon Production Services, Southern Arizona Video Productions, and Tucson Media Studio who will talk to members about potential opportunities for local talent in the Tucson area. You will have a chance to meet these talented representatives during our speed networking session and there will be opportunities to talk to all of the production companies after the meeting.

CROWN CHIMP FILMS is a production company working in commercials, television, and film. They've earned over 60 industry awards including a dozen on the national level for work with clients like Adidas, Coca Cola, the NBA, and Nike. Their film work has played around the world and are currently developing a project with Warner Bros. They specialize in artistic storytelling and collaboration with studios, clients, and casts & crews.

Crown Chimp Awards include a National ADDY, Emmy, 6 National Tellys, 2 National W3 Awards, 3 Communicator Awards, International Davey, MoMA Nomination, 1,000,000+ YouTube Channel Views, and 51 Regional Awards.

NICKOLAS DUARTE
writer/director/ep

A commercial, film, and series writer/director and the owner of Crown Chimp Productions. Nickolas, a native to Tucson, AZ, has earned over 60 industry awards (a dozen on the national level) and a Museum of Modern Art nomination. He has written, directed and/or developed projects across the world for brands such as Adidas, the NBA, Charles Schwab, BMW, the NFL, the MLS, Peak, New Era, Western Union and Nike. His short and experimental films have been recognized consistently on the national and international levels and in online outlets like Short of the Week.

His narrative-driven stories aim to find truth in every moment, with an emphasis on humanity, and are characterized by composition-focused visuals that utilize negative space and possess a cinéma vérité sensibility toward naturalistic imagery.  A collaborative filmmaker who values strong, nuanced performances and believes that most projects are made or broken by whoever is placed in front of the camera.  Nickolas cites influences in the world of contemporary art such as Erwin Olaf,  Andrew Wyeth and Eric Fischl.

FRANK ARMENDAREZ
writer/producer/shooter/director

An Arizona State Golden Gloves boxing champion and the loose inspiration for the character of Manuel. His experiences as a young man in South Tucson provide an authentic point of view to the often rough and brutal way of life in what was recently called "The Most Dangerous Small Town in the USA". Frank is the proud father of a high school aged daughter, and has become an excellent example of a modern Renaissance Man. After a career ending injury in boxing, he found his true calling and passion in filmmaking and has been an integral part of Crown Chimp for several years as both a producer and writer.

MATTHEW KING
writer/editor/operations

As one of the co-founders of Crown Chimp, Matt brings almost a decade of experience, while playing many roles within the company. With a blended background in film and computer science, and a passion for striking a tech-creative balance, he has settled in as Crown Chimp's Chief Editor. Previously working as a web engineer across medical, higher education and tech start-up industries, Matt brings a variety of expertise, structure and…long boring conversations about boring things.

Aspiring to showcase all the motivations behind production and nuances of a performance, he brings great instinct to his role as an editor.

DREW GRUBICH
writer/producer/actor

Drew has always been a weirdo. He fortunately found a passion for acting, moved to Chicago then LA and has done over 1000 live shows. He is a veteran of the Second City Conservatory Chicago and takes pride in utilizing his improv skills in unique ways to generate new content and ideas as a member of Crown Chimp for the past eight years.  As a producer he lives by the simple code, "do good work and be nice to people." Which usually works out pretty well.

SONIA CAMPBELL
writer/producer/mua

Sonia Campbell started working in independent film as an FX and special makeup artist, due to her love of horror and fantasy genres.  She eventually began writing and producing short scripts, while occasionally taking on small parts, composing, and other tasks that came along with independent filmmaking.  She first met Nickolas Duarte at a short film showcase and offered to help out as a makeup artist as needed.  With a career in marketing, Sonia was able to lend more skills to the company, and was made an Associate Producer this year.  Now she is beginning co-writing within the company, assisting with our series preproduction as needed, handling Crown Chimp social media and moderating the Crown Chimp podcasts. Sonia is also a priceless Ballbuster with a capital B.
