Position Overview The Lighting, Sound & Projections Director serves as the primary liaison between lighting, sound, and projection designers and all other production departments across ATC's unique two-city operation. This department head is responsible for coordinating, planning, budgeting, maintaining, and implementing all lighting, sound, and projection needs for both the 635-seat Temple of Music and Art in Tucson and the 550-seat Tempe Center for the Arts in Tempe/Phoenix. A member of the production department director team, this position represents the electrics, sound, and projections departments to production management and ATC leadership. The role directly supervises five staff members and leads IATSE over-hire crews across both venues.

 

Key Responsibilities

Experience & Qualifications

Planning & Department Operations •      Plan, organize, and run the lighting, sound, and projection department in both cities •      Assign daily work tasks and supervise timekeeping of all LS&P stagehands •      Coordinate and supervise all over-hire and IATSE stagehand calls with production management •      Maintain department budgets and daily bookkeeping; lead cost estimates and purchasing/rental within budget •      Supervise departmental inventory; manage equipment allocation between overlapping productions and both venues Production & Design •      Serve as liaison between lighting, sound, and projection designers and all production departments •      Ensure artistic integrity of all designs throughout run of show in both Tucson and Tempe/Phoenix •      Coordinate interdepartmental design elements; respond to rehearsal reports and notes promptly •      Take notes from guest designers and communicate needs; attend all production and tech meetings Events, Transfers & Administration •      Participate in planning for presentations, special events, and third-party rentals •      Coordinate with stage management to schedule actor recording sessions •      Collaborate with production management on Equity atmospherics compliance •      Communicate capital equipment upgrade needs; update and maintain all departmental documentation •      Provide mentorship and professional development for all five direct reports

Technical Knowledge •      Standards and safe practices for theatrical electrical, sound, projections, atmospherics, and fundamental rigging •      Current knowledge of industry advancements in lighting, sound, and projections Software — Full Stack Required •      Vectorworks, Lightwright, ETC light board •      Network-based lighting and projection systems, Watchout media server •      Qlab, Dante, Wireless Workbench, Adobe Audition •      Yamaha sound mixer Experience •      Resource and budget management at a production department level •      Touring or transferring productions to multiple venues •      IATSE crew leadership •      Effective communicator with directors, designers, actors, staff, and over-hire Attributes •      Attentive to detail, accountable, skilled in time management •      Proficiency in basic office software •      Commitment to ATC's mission and an inclusive, equitable workplace Physical & Schedule Ability to work at heights. Position Overview The Properties Director serves as the primary liaison between the Scenic Designer, the properties department, the artists, and all other production departments. This department head is responsible for coordinating, planning, maintaining, and implementing all properties needs across ATC's two-city operation — Tucson at the Temple of Music and Art and Tempe/Phoenix at the Tempe Center for the Arts. A member of the production department director team, this position represents the properties department to production management and ATC leadership. The role requires deep artistic sensibility — the ability to translate a Scenic Designer's vision into proactive, well-executed prop selection and fabrication across a five-show season.

 

Key Responsibilities

Experience & Qualifications

Department Operations •      Plan, organize, and run the properties department •      Assign daily work tasks and supervise timekeeping of properties stagehands •      Coordinate and supervise over-hire stagehand calls with production management •      Maintain department budgets and daily bookkeeping; lead cost estimates, purchasing/renting, and returning of all properties within budget •      Coordinate maintenance of stock, tools, supplies, inventory, and equipment •      Provide mentorship and professional development for direct reports Design & Artistic Collaboration •      Work closely with Directors and Designers to effectively communicate prop needs to the department •      Shop for and pull properties with the Scenic Designer; demonstrate deep understanding of designer's vision when working independently •      Oversee proactive, artistically driven selection and placement of set dressing prior to tech •      Coordinate interdepartmental design elements with all other departments Production Process •      Work closely with stage management to ensure continued communication regarding props needs throughout rehearsal and performance •      Respond to rehearsal reports and notes in a timely and effective manner •      Attend all production meetings, tech, dress rehearsal, preview note sessions, and team meetings Transfers, Safety & Admin •      Plan and oversee transfer of all shows from Tucson to Tempe/Phoenix with detailed continuity documentation •      Ensure safe handling of property weapons; facilitate training for all applicable parties on safe use and storage •      Ensure properties comply with sensitive actor needs such as allergies or food aversions •      Assign crew to pull, repair, and restock properties for presentations, special events, and third-party rentals •      Update, generate, and maintain all departmental documentation

Craft & Technical Knowledge •      Knowledge of techniques, practices, tools, and technologies for creating properties — painting, sculpting, sewing, upholstery, furniture construction, and graphic design •      Strong understanding of historical accuracy relating to properties •      Artistic sensibility and proactivity — ability to translate vague artistic requests into creative ideas and practical realities Experience •      Resource and budget management at a production department level •      IATSE crew leadership •      Effective communicator with directors, designers, stage managers, actors, staff, and over-hire Software & Tools •      Microsoft Office, Adobe Photoshop, and graphic design basics •      Valid driver's license required (must be able to obtain) Attributes •      Attentive to detail, accountable, and skilled in time management •      Commitment to ATC's mission and an inclusive, equitable workplace Physical & Schedule Variable schedule based on production needs; nights and weekends required.
