In this acclaimed masterpiece by Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright Tennessee Williams, family tensions run high and are as thick as a humid southern summer night.  While one brother and his scheming wife are vying for his dying father’s inheritance, the other seeks escape in a bottle as he avoids dealing with his turbulent marriage to Maggie “The Cat” in a place where the “walls have ears.”  Explosive and poignant, this contemporary drama, currently enjoying a highly successful revival on Broadway, examines a dysfunctional Southern family’s rivalries, avarice and secrets.

Actor Roberto Guajardo, who plays Big Daddy, was recently awarded a Lifetime Achievement Lumie award by the Tucson Pima Arts Council and Community Partners, for “sustained excellence and innovation in his field of art over a significant number of years.”

Director Brent Gibbs calls “Cat on a Hot Tin Roof” a brutally honest play that takes place in a “hot humid world where the gentile trappings of Southern nobility cannot obscure the primal urges of greed, sex and violence.”

Contains adult language and mature themes.

This production is offered through the generous support of the 2008 Summer Arts Festival, a program of the Office of Summer and Winter Session.
