Subject: Benefit for TBX Children's Musical Education - Golf Tournament and Barbershop concert

Our Youth in Harmony program hosts an annual Youth in Harmony event which has 200 to 300 high school students attending; we assist with music teaching at this event. We also participate with the local colleges in encouraging their music performances, introducing our music to them, and through our library education program teach the general public about barbershop music. We sing to shut-ins, have helped public TV fundraising, given free concerts at the Rodeo, The Cancer Hospital, and others. Our group is Chapter D-003 of the Barbershop Harmony Society. The Golf Fund-raiser benefits our Youth and other Programs.

Information about the Tucson Sunshine Chapter, D-003, Barbershop Harmony Society

We are an award winning Chapter of the BHS, Currently Arizona AA Plateau Champions of the 2009 and 2010 District Contests. Our Chapter won most improved for two years straight and improving from contest scores in the 50's to contest scores in the 70's. We have an Emmy winning director and the District Senior Quartet winners on our staff. As a Chapter of the BHS, we have access to personnel and other highly qualified clinicians who are ready willing and able to work directly with students through our Youth in Harmony Program; one of our prime charities. We are experienced in organizing, operating, and running the Tucson Youth in Harmony festival; 2010 was our fifth year. We are a 501(c)(3).

In addition to out-reach and musical education for the youth of Tucson we have a history of gratis performances for hospitals, shut-ins, Civic, and Charitable Foundations. In 2009 we were selected to be part of the Tucson Public Library Educational Presenters Program for 2010 and we will be giving presentations as part of the Library Education Program. We are allied with all of the teachers of music in Tucson and work with music educators across Arizona. We perform 4 or 5 full scale professional quality shows in public appearance each year and send VLQ's throughout the community in support of public education.

This year our Chorus Members Volunteered 100's of hours in support of Tucson Charities and 10 of our members worked the phones at pledge night for Public TV. We completed successfully in National Anthem Competition at the University of Arizona as a Chorus and will be singing at some U of A games in the 2010/2011 Season. We are winners of the Fox Foundation Grant; and, this year we were also winners of grants from the Association of International Contestants (Barbershop Harmony) and the Barbershop Harmony Society.

Our commitments to the Tucson Community and its school system are well known and have received National Attention. The cost of these programs has been offset in small portion by the above mentioned grants; but, the Chorus is in need of new Uniforms, Risers, a Riser Transportation/Storage Trailer, and money to off-set the cost of music and professional educator travel expenses for our educational efforts. At present our members donate much of their time and resources to keeping our programs healthy but over the long run this is not sustainable and is a hardship to many of the Chorus members who are retired and on fixed income.

If you are able to become a Patron of the Tucson Sunshine Chorus and participate in our educational and charitable activities it would be a great help to future generations of singers, music educators, and a grateful community that benefits from our efforts. Thank you for your time and consideration; and, please help us if you can.
