Tucson: ReadOUT, ACTout is searching for a director!

In honor of Banned Books Week in September, ASUA Pride Alliance at the University of Arizona is searching for a potential director for our ReadOUT, ACTout event. Preference will be given to a University of Arizona student, though all will be considered. 

 

ReadOUT, ACTout is a theatrical performance based on four commonly challenged children's books that feature alternative families and gender expressions. This production will not only draw attention to banned books week and the right to read, but will also serve to educate the University of Arizona campus about LGBTQ issues and help prevent bullying of those who are different. The following books are expected be included to be read aloud as the actors perform (In English, with possible extra Spanish-speaking edition): -And Tango Makes Three by Justin Richardson -The Sissy Duckling by Harvey Fierstein -The Different Dragon by Jennifer Bryan -My Princess Boy by Cheryl Kilodavis This production is in honor of Banned Books Week 2011 and will take place during the week of Sept 26-30, 2011. Applications are due no later than August 15, 2011 and a decision will be made by August 22, 2011. Resumes may be sent to seprzy@email.arizona.edu, but are not required. The chosen Director will be responsible for the following (with assistance from the Pride Alliance Directors): -Determining set and costuming needs -Casting -Directing the actors -Regular rehearsals leading up to the production -Making sure the production goes smoothly the day of the event The chosen Director will receive a $400 stipend. Course or internship credit may be arranged at the discretion of a student's course professor or academic advisor.
