Auditions for Mystery Dinner Theater Writer-Actors

Date change

FoxPaws Productions

Auditions for actor-writers for an original Mystery Dinner Theatre production will be July 26th and 27th. 7 women and one man ages 18 though 90. Place TBA - Contact DeeDee to book a time slot. Alternate dates are available. Writing rehearsals begin July 29.

This as yet unnamed show will be written an a improv-collaborative writing technique. From feedback from previous FoxPaws actors: this promises to be one of the most creative things you will ever do. Since you will develop your own character, the characters have more depth than many comedy formats. The show is very interactive, with actors roaming through the “diners” and answering questions in between acts.

The theme that we were given from our sponsoring organization, The  American Association of University Women,  is Women’s Equity.  The setting is a competition of costume making companies vying for funding for a new location in Green Valley.  There will be a murder, of course.

The gimmick that we are using is “channeling” of famous women. If the right actresses audition, I would love to see a Rosa Parks, a Mother Jones, a Dorothy Huerta, an Eleanor Roosevelt…..  Or pick a famous woman that fits your skill set: Age is not a factor – a young woman can channel a older Susan B Anthony. If we cast singers, there will be singing, keyboard, guitar? Each actor will do some research to bring some facts to the production, but overall it is all in good fun and played for laughs.

The guy? Think positive, we don’t want to make a scapegoat of him. He will have an equal role in the show and equal say in the writing process.

There is no pay, but you do get fed. Two performances - October 30, evening and October 31 matinee. This leaves you with a great costume and free for Halloween Night.

Time commitment: one writing-improv meeting a week with emails to finalize scenes through mid October. Six rehearsals in the two weeks before the shows.

Rehearsals and performances are in Sahuarita.
