Subject: New Playwriting Classes Start in August
Two new sessions of the Stage Write Workshop’s “Intro to Playwriting”, taught by award-winning writer Nathan Christensen, will be starting this August.
Regular “Intro to Playwriting” will be held Thursdays, 7:00-8:30 p.m., from August 19 to October 7. The final class will be a sharing session, which family and friends may attend to hear the work that has been written.
“Into to Playwriting for Teens”, for students age 12 to 18, will be held Tuesdays, 7:00-8:30 p.m., from August 24 to October 5, with the final sharing session on Saturday, October 9, at 2:00 p.m.
The eight-session course is structured to help writers with little or moderate experience gain a strong foundation of dramatic principles, while allowing them to practice their writing in a supportive environment. Topics covered include:
o Finding dramatic action in your ideas
o Developing compelling characters
o Applying the elements of theatricality
o Writing for stage vs. film
o Script formatting and simple computer tools
o Writing monologues, scenes and 10-minute plays
Classes will be held at 4616 E Fairmount St. (near Swan & Speedway). Tuition is $200, payable during the first session. No additional textbook is required.
