Synopsis

Angelina — kind, overlooked, and dreaming of something more — toils in the household of her vain stepfather Don Magnifico, who lavishes every advantage on his scheming daughters while denying her the same. When Prince Ramiro arrives in disguise searching for a bride of true virtue, he and Angelina are instantly drawn to one another.

With the help of Alidoro, the prince's wise philosopher-valet, and a sparkling twist involving a pair of enchanted bracelets in place of a glass slipper, Angelina must navigate royal intrigue, mistaken identities, and her stepfather's relentless schemes. In Rossini's telling, it is her inner goodness and grace — not magic — that ultimately wins the day.

Rossini's comic masterpiece sparkles with wit, dazzling vocal fireworks, and a deeply human heart. This is the Cinderella story retold with all the warmth and irresistible effervescence only opera can deliver.

About the Composer

Gioachino Rossini (1792–1868) was one of the most celebrated composers in operatic history. Known as "The Italian Mozart" for his gift for lyrical, irresistible melody, Rossini composed 39 operas before his famous retirement at age 37. His best-loved works include The Barber of Seville and La Cenerentola — both masterpieces of opera buffa, the Italian tradition of comic opera. His scores are celebrated for their wit, theatrical energy, and the brilliant vocal technique they demand from singers: rapid-fire passages, soaring coloratura, and an effervescent comic timing that has delighted audiences for two centuries.
