ABOUT THE PRODUCTION
Anita is more than a musical—it is a world premiere born from years of community storytelling, oral histories, and artistic collaboration rooted in Tucson’s Barrio Anita neighborhood. Developed through workshops and development readings that drew enthusiastic responses from preview audiences, this original work blends vibrant Latin music traditions with contemporary R&B-pop to create a theatrical experience unlike any other.
Borderlands Theater, now in its fourth decade of producing socially engaged theater by and for the Tucson community, brings this landmark production to the Leo Rich Theater for a limited three-week engagement. The production reflects the organization’s ongoing commitment to amplifying Latinx stories and building cultural bridges through the performing arts.
GET INVOLVED
Borderlands Theater relies on community volunteers to make its productions possible. Volunteer to work the merchandise table and enjoy the show at no charge. Load-in and strike volunteers receive two complimentary tickets each. To sign up, visit the Borderlands Theater website and select a volunteer slot.
