The School of Theatre, Film & Television at the UA invites you to come see what our newer theatre students have to share with our community as they bring Kenneth Lonergan's THIS IS OUR YOUTH to life.  Lonergan has his finger on the pulse of urban 20-somethings as he tells a story about these liberal Manhattanites during the Reagan-era.    (Adult content, profanity & simulated drug use).

UA’s Studio Series presents This Is Our Youth by Kenneth Lonergan,

directed by Jenny Bazzell, Adjunct Instructor for the School of Theatre, Film & Television

This play about young Mahattanites circa 1982 has characters who feel displaced as the Reagan Era unfolds, revealing a different U.S. that now rejects the liberal ideals of the 1960’s – ideals in which they were brought up to believe.

This is Our Youth was first produced in 1996 by the New Group in New York and earned critical acclaim, including a Drama Desk Award nomination for best new play. The play depicts 48 hours in the lives of three 20-somethings from the Upper West Side, often high and living in squalor. Dennis is a small-time drug dealer and total mess, with a social activist mother and accomplished painter for a father. His hero-worshipping and apathetic friend, Warren, has just stolen thousands of dollars from his father, an abusive business mogul who is “not a criminal - just in business with criminals.” When a prep school student named Jessica arrives for a date, Warren pulls out the money wad and clumsily sweeps her away for a seductive night on the town. What follows is both bittersweet and comical, but also moving. (Adult content, profanity & simulated drug use).
