Casting Notice: "Take Care, Then"

https://www.facebook.com/amy.crater

Casting Notice for the short film “Take Care, Then”

written and directed by Amy Crater

DP: Michael Redd

This is a PAID, Shoots Nov 7-9, 2025 in Arizona

non-union project {actual location TDB)

FLORENCE (Lead)

Female, 25-45, White.

A plain, emotionally repressed Pennsylvania Dutch farm wife and mother in the 1880s, Grounded in tradition but with a buried wildness that begins to surface. Discovers unexpected pleasure, power, and independence. Must balance stillness with slow transformation; dry humor and deep emotional range required. Think: Sarah Paulson meets Phoebe Waller-Bridge

HUGH (Lead)

Male, 30-45, White.

A brilliant, mustachioed, overgrown-child of a husband who abandons his wife and farm to chase greatness on a penny-farthing bicycle. Athletic, traditional, theatrical—possibly bipolar. He’s a romantic wrapped in delusion. Strong comedic timing and improvisation skills essential Think: Jason Ritter with a Messiah complex and a banjo or piccolo.

LEAH (Supporting)

Female, 2540s, Open Ethnicity.

A radiant, earthy herbalist who lives just beyond the edges of tradition. Married to Ben. Works part time on the farm. Outdoorsy, sensual, and emotionally grounded. She’s gently guides Florence toward self-discovery through nature, pleasure, and quiet rebellion. Must exude presence, warmth, and subtle magnetism. Think: Lisa Bonet by way of a barefoot apothecary.

BEN (Supporting)

Male, 25-S0s, Open Ethnicity.

A sexy, grounded farmhand and orchardist who works on Florence's farm. Outdoorsy, athletic, and emotionally intuitive. In a loving, open marriage with Leah. Flirtatious with Florence, but always respectful—he helps awaken her to a freer, more honest way of living. Must have natural charm, physical ease, and strong chemistry with lead. Think: Pedro Pascal with a pruning knife and a basket of peaches.

GERTIE (Supporting)

Female, 30-45, Open Ethnicity.

Florence's cousin and best friend. Outwardly traditional but with a mischievous streak and a mind of her own. Flirtatious, funny, and more worldly than she lets on. Encourages Florence to embrace freedom and pleasure, sometimes with a nudge, sometimes with a full shove. Must have strong comedic instincts and sharp timing. Think: Samantha Jones meets Portia de Rossi in a bonnet.

THEODORA (Supporting)

Female, 2-5 years old, Open Ethnicity (must read as Florence's daughter).

A wild-hearted, fearles rm child. Climbs fences, chases chickens, and charges through life with muddy boots and zero hesitation. Theodora mirrors the untamed part of her mother Florence—before Florence even realizes it's there. Must be expressive, energetic, and comfortable outdoors. Think: a tiny Evel Knievel in petticoats.

MABEL (Supporting)

Female, 2-5 years old, Open Ethnicity (must read as Florence’s daughter).

Theodora’s younger (or same-age) sister —quiet, watchful, and deeply observant. Mabel clutches a doll, studies the adults, and takes in more than she lets on. Sweet but not passive—her stillness holds weight. Must be comfortable on set and able to convey emotion through small, natural moments. Think: a tiny Jane Eyre

PEARL (Supporting)

Female, 40s-70s, Open Ethnicity.

The town’s upright church organist and self-appointed guardian of moral order. Traditional, pious, and sharp-eyed, Pearl regularly “checks in” on Florence while her husband is away—to offer help, sure, but mostly to sniff out any creeping sin. She believes in propriety, appearances, and keeping things just so. Must balance stern comedy with genuine conviction. Think: Aunt Lydia with a hymnal and a hot dish.

Please let me know if you have any 1880s attire available!

Santa Cruz Shoestring Players presents OFFICE PARTY: A MUSICAL COMEDY

OFFICE PARTY: A MUSICAL COMEDY - Santa Cruz Shoestring Players

Fri Aug 8, 2025 - Sun Aug 17, 2025

A Musical Comedy by Claire Margaret Corlett and Neil Crapo

Office Party is a comedic musical that brings together a group of quirky co-workers celebrating their quarterly sales goal, only to unravel a series of unexpected secrets. As the night progresses, revelations about personal indiscretions and corporate misconduct intertwine with light-hearted banter and budding friendships. When the boss leaves suddenly, accidentally leaving behind her laptop, it sparks a chain reaction of snooping and scandal - from a forbidden office romance, to embezzlement for a pet cat’s surgery, and a shocking corporate crime. Between songs about nerdy TV shows and workplace woes, the ensemble navigates their missteps and mishaps, ultimately finding humor and humanity in their flawed yet lovable characters. Featuring all original songs, this production promises laughter, intrigue, and a heartwarming reminder of second chances, making it a must-see in the upcoming theater season.

Santa Cruz Shoestring Players Auditions for our Fall production of UNNECESSARY FARCE

Announcing Auditions for our Fall production of UNNECESSARY FARCE on Aug. 11 and 12 (with callbacks, if needed, on Aug. 13). For more information, please check out https://www.santacruzshoestringplayers.org/

Two cops. Three crooks. Eight doors. Go. In a cheap motel room, an embezzling mayor is supposed to meet with his female accountant, while in the room next-door, two undercover cops wait to catch the meeting on videotape. But there's some confusion as to who's in which room, who's being videotaped, who's taken the money, who's hired a hit man, and why the accountant keeps taking off her clothes.

Cast of Characters:

ERIC SHERIDAN, Male. A police officer. A bookish, even-keeled guy who finds himself completely out of his element when called upon to express his feelings for women, lie tohis boss, disguise himself as someone else, and stand up to an armed mobster – while not wearing any pants.

BILLIE DWYER, Female. A police officer. Eric’s partner. Excitable and entirely unthreatening, she seemingly lacks every skill necessary for police work but is as eager to succeed as she seems destined to fail.

KAREN BROWN, Female. An accountant, who has always taken pride in her accountant-like, professional demeanor – until this morning, when she finds herself filled with a sexual hunger, and unable to keep things in control.

MAYOR MEEKLY, Male. An Innocent, with a capital i. An affable, gentle fellow. Not too quick on the pick-up, but a sweet, sweet soul.

AGENT FRANK, Male. The head of Security at Town Hall, and, frankly, the wrong man for the job. Though he presents the confident, gruff exterior of a secret service agent (or film noir detective, even), he is frequently (an, at moments of crisis, invariably) a man frightened of his own shadow.

TODD, Male. Speaks with a pronounced Scottish accent. A professional hit man. Cool, quiet, and perceptive when at his best, but more frequently an angry Scotsman – and the angrier he becomes, the thicker his accent gets, until he is entirely indecipherable.

MARY MEEKLY, Female. The Mayor’s wife. Small in stature and unfailingly sweet, she seems, in every way, the perfect match for her husband.
