Tosca is desperately looking for a way out, when Scarpia offers a solution: submit to him, and he will let the couple leave the city unharmed. November 7, 2017  7PM - 9PM
Location: The Art Institute of Tucson
5099 E. Grant Road Rm 129 Tucson, AZ, 85712

Success is all about communication and connection.  You need to know who is out there that might be able to join your team, help your project – or offer a service you need.  This night is all about really learning who we are as a filmmaking community.  How can we serve each other to make our projects come to life and achieve success.  Unlike some art forms, filmmaking is a collaborative medium.  No one can do everything themselves.

So – come to this essential meeting.  You can have ONE MINUTE to introduce and PITCH YOURSELF.  What skills you have – what partners or assistance you are looking for.  This will be a structured networking session – so even if you are shy, you will get to know everyone in greater depth.  You don't have to pitch yourself, you can just listen – but hey, give it a try.  Let people know who you are and what you hope to accomplish!

Facilitator

Genie Jospeh

Genie was the CEO of Hawaii Movie Studios which produced several low-budget feature films.  She was co-producer of Nickelodeon's Beyond the Break for three seasons.

Her feature films have been on Variety's Top 50 list and have won international awards.  As a staff producer/director at KITV-4, (The ABC Affiliate in Honolulu) she directed hundreds of TV commercials.  Genie is the author of twenty screenplays – ten of which have been sold and produced by independent companies.

With an MFA, she teaches Television Production and Screenwriting at Chaminade University.  She is Vice President of Independent Film Arizona.

Board Elections

Last chance to get on the ballot if you are running for the Board of IFA!  Be sure to come to the December meeting to vote for the new board members and officers.

The December general meeting will elect individual officers (President, Vice President, Secretary, and Treasurer, as well as Directors at Large) from those applicant members desiring to serve. If the election of officers shall not be held at such meeting, such election such election shall be held as soon thereafter as conveniently may be.

November 2017 Discount on Comedy Improv at The Studio for Actors

From: The Studio For Actors [mailto:acting-courses@the-studio-for-actors.com]
Sent: Friday, October 27, 2017 4:24 PM
Subject: Announcement: November 2017 Discount on Comedy Improv at The Studio for Actors

Taste of Improv Class

The Studio for Actors is now offering a "Taste of Improv Class." Here's how it works. Just come on one Wednesday night from 6:30pm-8:00pm for only $30. This class is normally $40, but for the evenings of November 1 and November 15, you can attend for $30 for one class only, and see how much you love studying improv at The Studio. So, if you've always wondered (or if you've never wondered) if you would enjoy comedy improv, this is your chance to check it out.

Call (520) 881-2363 to sign up.  To qualify for the discounted price, you must say the words "Taste of Improv Class" when you call.

* Limit one $30 class per person.

Comedy Improvisation

You don't have to be a funny person to love and get a lot out of a comedy improv class. I can make you funny. Because you have to focus in this class, you can end up taking a vacation from the stuff that goes on in your life, and there's a lot of healing with laughter. Your coach is a former Saturday Night Live cast member, and will give you the accents and the formats you can use as a "safety net." Improv is a great stress reliever and really encourages the ability to verbally communicate. So, come, play, have a ball, and enjoy releasing your own special creativity.

Also, for students of acting, improv enhances your auditions, loosens up the body, helps you think fast on your feet, introduces dialects, and sharpens your timing.4 consecutive Wednesday nights

6:30pm-8:00pm
Start on any Wednesday (but you should call first to sign up).
$40 per week
Don't worry if you have to miss one or even two of the four classes. You simply pay for the class you have to miss and then take class #5 free.  It's even possible to pay $160 at your first class, and then take your last three classes whenever you can make it. (I keep great records.)

To find out more or to sign up, please call Anna Risley at (520) 881-2363.

Also being offered at The Studio for Actors:
Radio/TV Voiceover Seminar
Audition Technique

Each of these classes is taught by Anna Risley at her Studio (The Studio for Actors), located on 6th Street, just off 4th Avenue.  Anna has 30 years of experience in film, television, voiceover, and stage acting.   To check out her resume, please visit The Studio for Actors website , or call her at (520) 881-2363 to sign up.

Pachanga!! Tickets On Sale Now!

It's that time of year again, when the beautiful and unique Tucson community comes together to celebrate and support Borderlands Theater's work at our annual Pachanga celebration. There's much to celebrate with the move to our new offices at the Sosa Carrillo Fremont house, the completion of our first video documentary about Barrio Stories, and, speaking of, the on-going work we've been doing in Barrio Anita as part of the second phase of Barrio Stories.

On a more practical note, the funds we raise at the Pachanga support a variety of free events and services. Last season we ran an after school workshop with Tucson High's drama students, three hours a day, five days a week for seven weeks all for free. For our production of Shooting Columbus last April, we gave away twenty percent of each night's tickets to indigenous identified audience members. We are currently offering free art workshops for Barrio Anita residents at Oury Recreation Center as part of a year of free art workshops and capacity building events associated with the Barrio Stories Project.

There are still tickets left. Join us for a party under the stars and a great cause.

This exciting, fantastical production recreates the Mayan creation myth adapted from the sacred Mayan text, "Popol Vuh," incorporating large-scale puppetry, spectacular masks, a fusion of pre-Columbian and modern music, and dance. The Mayan hero twins are summoned by the creators of the world to deal with the false and corrupt Seven Macaw, who holds dominion over the Earth. Through stealth and trickery, the shape-shifter twins are able to outsmart the corrupt ruler with their powerful artistry. The story is symbolic and politically relevant for today's culture.
