January 2017 Discount on Comedy Improv at The Studio for Actors

From: The Studio For Actors [mailto:acting-courses@the-studio-for-actors.com]
Sent: Saturday, December 31, 2016 3:30 PM
Subject: Announcement: January 2017 Discount on Comedy Improv at The Studio for Actors

Taste of Improv Class

The Studio for Actors is now offering a "Taste of Improv Class." Here's how it works. Just come on one Wednesday night from 6:30pm-8:00pm for only $30. This class is normally $40, but for the evening of January 25, you can attend for $30 for one class only, and see how much you love studying improv at The Studio. So, if you've always wondered (or if you've never wondered) if you would enjoy comedy improv, this is your chance to check it out.

Call (520) 881-2363 to sign up.  To qualify for the discounted price, you must say the words "Taste of Improv Class" when you call.

* Limit one $30 class per person.

Comedy Improvisation

You don't have to be a funny person to love and get a lot out of a comedy improv class. I can make you funny. Because you have to focus in this class, you can end up taking a vacation from the stuff that goes on in your life, and there's a lot of healing with laughter. Your coach is a former Saturday Night Live cast member, and will give you the accents and the formats you can use as a "safety net." Improv is a great stress reliever and really encourages the ability to verbally communicate. So, come, play, have a ball, and enjoy releasing your own special creativity.

Also, for students of acting, improv enhances your auditions, loosens up the body, helps you think fast on your feet, introduces dialects, and sharpens your timing.4 consecutive Wednesday nights

6:30pm-8:00pm
Start on any Wednesday (but you should call first to sign up).
$40 per week
Don't worry if you have to miss one or even two of the four classes. You simply pay for the class you have to miss and then take class #5 free.  It's even possible to pay $160 at your first class, and then take your last three classes whenever you can make it. (I keep great records.)

To find out more or to sign up, please call Anna Risley at (520) 881-2363.

Also being offered at The Studio for Actors:
Radio/TV Voiceover Seminar
Audition Technique

Each of these classes is taught by Anna Risley at her Studio (The Studio for Actors), located on 6th Street, just off 4th Avenue.  Anna has 30 years of experience in film, television, voiceover, and stage acting.   To check out her resume, please visit The Studio for Actors website , or call her at (520) 881-2363 to sign up.

JOIN US FOR TALES OF “LABOR,” JANUARY 5, 2017

Curated by Jen Nowicki Clark –
Thursday, January 5, 2017 —
Doors at 6:30, show at 7 —
The Screening Room 127 E. Congress St
$8 Adults, $6 Students

HARD WORK. SOMETIMES MUCH HARDER THAN WE EXPECTED. WE’VE ALL BEEN THERE IN SOME WAY. WHAT KEEPS US GOING? ARE THE FRUITS OF OUR LABOR WHAT WE THOUGHT THEY WOULD BE? AND WHO DETERMINES THE CONDITIONS? COME LISTEN TO TRUE LOCAL STORIES ABOUT DIGGING DEEP AND GETTING IT DONE.

Tickets and info: http://odysseystorytelling.com/

This month’s Storytellers include:
Jema Patterson is a free-spirited life-hacker driven by math and insatiable curiosity.  Due to her learning addiction, she has crossed 45 international borders and held more than 26 blue, white, and no-collar jobs.  Currently, she wants someone in Tucson to teach her appliance and small engine repair.  She likes writing stories for people, and last month it dawned on her that she should try telling them out-loud, too.

Penny Bussell Stansfield is from the UK and lived in France for 20 years. She’s been in the US for 20 years with her husband of 30+ years, Rob. Their three kids spent their formative years in Tucson hiking, camping and enjoying the great outdoors. As  as being a DONA International Certified Birth Doula and Doula Trainer,  she is also a Lamaze Certified childbirth educator, a certified lactation counselor and a board certified massage therapist specializing in prenatal massage. In short, she honors and cherishes anything to do with pregnancy and birth and she works to empower women to make evidence-based decisions that fit their goals. She is the author of “Labors of Love: A Doula’s Birth Stories”.  You can find out more about her work at www.pennydoula.com

Montserrat Caballero is a community volunteer and activist.  She is a member of the Cesar E. Chavez Holiday Coalition, Las Adelitas Political Pac, groups focused on sexual violence, and sits on the Borderlands Theater Board.  She is also heavily involved in the Carrillo K-5 Creative Arts and Communication Magnet PTO, where her son is a second grader.  She recently joined the Flowers and Bullets Advisory Committee and is looking forward to working with this group to develop a vibrant community space at the school they recently acquired from TUSD.  She currently works in the PCC Adult Basic Education for College and Career Division

Equal parts starry-eyed idealist and crusty construction worker, Joe Silins is originally from Phoenix but has been in Tucson nearly long enough to call himself a local. A newly minted entrepreneur, Joe doesn’t have excessive amounts of free-time, but in the time he does have he likes spending time with friends, yoga-ing, and talking about how he should be camping and hiking more.

Vic Roych is an actor. A SAG-AFTRA member, he has appeared in about 50 movies and hopes for a revival of the Arizona film industry while he’s still ambulatory. Theatrically, he  has worked with many local groups, most of which are heard no more. He is a former newspaper sports writer and free-lance magazine article writer, holder of a degree in Journalism and Mass Communication from the University of Minnesota. Vic is frequently seen at art and cultural events. In loving memory of Warner (McCay) Burritt and Denny Schapiro.

The Roadrunner Theatre Company presents Becky's New Car

From: Roadrunner Theatre Company [mailto:roadrunnertheatre@gmail.com]
Sent: Wednesday, December 28, 2016 7:14 PM
Subject: Becky's New Car by Steve Dietz Coming to RTC

Roadrunner Theatre Company

December 2016

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

The Roadrunner Theatre Company is proud to present the Becky's New Car by Steven Dietz.  Performances are at the Roadrunner Theatre 8892 E. Tanque Verde Rd. Opening night is Friday, January 13, 2017 and the show runs until Sunday, February 5, 2017. Shows run Fridays and Saturdays at 7:00 pm and Sunday matinees at 2:00 pm.

In Becky's New Car the audience is offered a chance to ride shotgun in a way that most plays wouldn't dare. BECKY'S NEW CAR is a thoroughly original comedy…a devious and delightful romp down the road not taken.

"On a classic mistaken-identity premise, playwright Steven Dietz has constructed a warmly humorous and nimble romantic farce that doesn't oversell itself, or ever sell its American Everywoman protagonist short. Dietz has created a comedy of modern manners…one that derives as much power from its humanity as its fine-tuned craftsmanship." –Seattle Times

"Perhaps the highest praise that can be given to Steven Dietz's praiseworthy new comedy is that it's funny. Not ironic. Not hysterical in a slapsticky kind of way. Just gently and consistently funny—right up to the point that it's touching, and then even a little bit after that. BECKY'S NEW CAR takes the audience on a smart, comic cruise through the perils of middle-aged longing and regret." - Variety

Cast includes Daria Berg, Bob Kovitz, Laura McCormick, Clark Ray, Caroline Reed, Nick Smallwood and Michael F. Woodson. Roberto Guajardo directs.
