Subject: Yes and News - 12/29/22

It is the final weekend of 2022, and it has been a great year!  After returning from the pandemic over a year and half ago, it feels like we are back hitting our stride.  Next year my goal is to step back from the more day to day tasks that I have been doing and focus on putting those finishing touches on our theater experience, and working to bring even more audience members into our shows.  But before I start on my resolution, I want to thank you, our most loved fans, who have made the past year so joyful.  Thank you for all of your support!

Tonight we are going to debut a new show, Auld Laugh Syne: An Evening of Songs and Laughter. This idea has been rattling around in my head the past two years.  We are going to take your favorite Christmas Carols, do a sing along, and then take those famous tunes and twist them into a fun improv show.  We will present the concept for the first time tonight at 7:30pm and then it will be featured in the first half of our New Year's Eve 7:30 pm show.  I promise we will take your fa la la la las, and turn them into ha ha ha ha has!

Don't drop the ball on New Year's Eve, and fill your day with laughter.  At 11am, we are bringing back a kids show with Noon Years: A Comedy Show for Kids and Families.  Your small improvisers can join us on the stage, and participate in a Noon Years Countdown.   New Year's Eve night brings you two shows.  At 7:30pm we will do a "Comedic Look Back on 2022" to send out the past year with a laugh, for just $7.  Then at 9pm we present a "Comedic Look Forward to 2023" which will include a champagne toast and cost $10, or come to both for $15!  Get your tickets now as they are selling fast!

We have tons of new classes starting in January headlined by a Stand Up 101 and SKETCH 101.  We just listed our next Improv 101 starting January 17th with Jessica Hill.  So make your resolution to start the new year with laughter!

The Soapbox w/Wynne Rife + Mary Beth Tyndall
(Re)Telling Tucson's Story
Friday Night at 7:30pm

This week we welcome two musicians from the Tucson Symphony Orchestra!

Mary Beth Tyndall was in the cello section of the Tucson Symphony Orchestra and retired in 2020 after 38 years of service.  She is in no way retired, however!  She teaches 40 private cello students in her home studio in Tucson and is junior program director and cello instructor at Rocky Ridge Music Center in Colorado in the summer months.  She is married to Kendall Kroesen, who works at Tucson's amazing Mission Garden, and they are the pet parents of 2 chihuahua mixes, Dolce and Echo.

Wynne Rife is a Tucson native with the cutest, sweetest husband and the most amazing, sweet, and beautiful daughters. "I am violinist - it's not an interest or hobby, it's who I am." Wynne dreams a lot and is always pondering the meanings. She has an ability to know some things that will happen in the future, but never listens to her hunches until it's too late. Wynne believes that life moves in mysterious ways that we often don't understand, but there's always a reason and a lesson to be learned.

CALLBACKS For Our Upcoming Play!

The Oro Valley Theatre Company will be holding callbacks for Plaza Suite” by Neil Simon. Directed by Samantha Cormier

Hilarity abounds in this portrait of three couples successively occupying a suite at the Plaza Hotel in NYC. A suburban couple take the suite telling a wry tale of a marriage in tatters. They are followed by the exploits of a Hollywood producer who, after three marriages, is looking for fresh fields. Finally, a mother and father fight about the best way to get their daughter out of the bathroom and down to the ballroom to her wedding.

Prepare to read from the script which will be available at the auditions

We are looking for 3 male actors over 30 years old,

3 female actors over 30 years old, 1 female actor over 20 years old

Audition callbacks will be held January 15th, 4-6 pm

LTW Mainstage presents STONES IN HIS POCKETS

LTW Mainstage:

STONES IN HIS POCKETS

by Marie Jones

January 12 - February 18, 2023

Hollywood comes to rural Ireland in this hilarious multi-award winner which ran for four years in London’s West End. This off- beat, endearing tale in which two local Irishmen work as extras on a Hollywood film brilliantly mixes comedy with the poignancy of unexpected loss. Every artist with unrealized childhood dreams will invest in the successes and shortcomings of Charlie and Jake in this acclaimed production of Stones In His Pockets.

"If there is a more cleverly constructed, enterprisingly acted play on offer in London right now, I cannot think of it" -The Times

"It is clearly magical, this comedy by Belfast writer Marie Jones, dealing as it does with myths, memories, class and sex, with two actors who create a whole world on stage. The play itself not only sends up the delirious fantasy of film, it becomes a moving and heartfelt tribute to the imaginative power of live performance" - The Guardian

SHOW TIMES

Sundays at 3:00pm
Special Final Saturday Matinee at 3:00pm

Are you infatuated with a Calvin Klein perfume? Did you see the movie “As Good as It Gets” a disturbing number of times? Do you feel an unquenchable urge to wash your hands, even as you read this sentence? That last one could just be a hold over from the recent pandemic. Or, it could be OBSESSION, and we want to hear about it!
Whether its unrequited love, paper-folding, the need to constantly organize that unwieldy pantry or any of a thousand obsessions, Odyssey Storytelling is offering you an opportunity to hear and be heard. Come join us in our new, old home THE SCREENING ROOM on Congress Street, where we will be the first Thursday of every month, starting January 5, 2023, as Odyssey Storytelling presents: OBSESSION! That’s right, OBSESSION.

Storytellers include:
David Fitzsimmons
Noel Hennesey
Czarina Nafarrate
Steven Braun‘s (Curator/Producer) career as a Public Safety 911 Telecommunications Shift Supervisor began over 12 years ago, before which he was an award-winning professional chef. He has also worked as a retail store stock clerk/cashier, front desk Night Auditor for a local resort, and Alpine ski instructor…okay, that last part isn’t true. In fact, he hasn’t skied in over 40 years. But he is a storyteller. Other hobbies include photography, writing, SCUBA divng, and marble sculpture…nope…just the first three, but glass blowing is high on the list of things he will attempt before shedding this mortal coil. Besides being a regular on the Odyssey stage and a member of the board, he recently took over as sound engineer and podcast host. He considers himself to be the hardest working lazy person he has ever encountered and prefers to lay on a couch watching old Star Wars movies. Most importantly, Steven has been married to Phyllis for almost 36 years and they have a child, Jax, who lives and works in Seattle, where they visit as often as global pandemics allow.
