ARIZONA THEATRE COMPANY ANNOUNCES GENERAL AUDITIONS FOR THE 2006-2007 SEASON

Arizona Theatre Company will hold general season auditions for Equity and
non-Equity actors for the 2006-2007 season in Tucson and Phoenix. Tucson
auditions will take place on Tuesday, June 6 from 11 AM -1 PM and 3 - 8 PM
for both Equity and non-Equity actors. Tucson auditions will be held at the
Temple of Music and Art, upstairs in the Rehearsal Hall, 330 S. Scott Avenue
in downtown Tucson. Phoenix auditions will take place on Monday, June 5
from 12-3 PM and 4-8 PM for Equity actors and on Wednesday, June 7 from 12-3
PM and 4-8 PM for non-Equity actors. Phoenix auditions will be held in
Stage West of the Herberger Theater Center, 222 E. Monroe Street.
Appointments are required and may be made by calling Jennifer Howard at
(520) 884-8210 for Tucson appointments or Amy Kleinhans at (602) 256-6899
for Phoenix appointments.

Actors must bring a recent headshot and resume. Each actor is required to
prepare two contrasting monologues totaling no more than four minutes
combined. Actors may substitute a song for one of the two pieces, but no
musical accompaniment will be provided, and the total length of the audition
must not exceed four minutes. A cassette / CD player, as well as a piano,
will be available for those wishing to provide their own accompanist. Given
the casting needs for the 2006-2007 season, actors must be eighteen years of
age or older.

Arizona Theatre Company's 2006-2007 season features Shakespeare's comedy
TWELFTH NIGHT; the powerful drama JITNEY by August Wilson; the Arizona
premiere of the Pulitzer and Tony Award-winning Broadway smash I AM MY OWN
WIFE; the Southwest premieres of STRING OF PEARLS and MOLLY'S DELICIOUS; and
a pair of musicals, ELLA and LOVE, JANIS.

Arizona Theatre Company is an Equal Opportunity Employer committed to
non-traditional and multi-cultural casting. Artists of color are urged to
audition. Callbacks for specific roles in specific productions will be held
at later dates throughout the season. All actor materials are kept on file
for two years. Consequently, all actors who auditioned during the 2005-2006
season are not required to audition at this time.

In an effort to keep current files of Arizona actors, ATC requests that
local actors who are unable to attend the auditions send a headshot and
resume to: Casting, ATC, 343 S. Scott Ave., Tucson, AZ 85701.

A new comedy, titled It's Your Birthday, Saul Towner!!! by former Tucsonan-turned-USC-Grad Andy Viner is in need of the following cast:

[SAUL TOWNER] Late 30s, carrying a few extra pounds, charismatic, good comic timing. Vince Vaughn crossed with Philip Seymour Hoffman or the 70's version of Elliot Gould crossed with Peter Sellers. A man who has let himself go, and carries the weight of the world on his shoulders for no apparent reason. His bright future ceased to be when his parents died and left him a successful home building company and the means to do nothing with his life. He appears in the commercials but otherwise does little. Upon his 36th birthday he faces a crisis as he clearly sees the life he's chosen to lead.

[LUCY] 12, precocious, confident, book smart and a real pistol of a girl who has decided now is the appropriate time to consider her feminine side and sexuality. Daughter of Saul's ex-girlfriend Katherine, she looks at Saul as a father figure and comes to him with sex questions.

Tucson: Latino Producers AcademyT Application Deadline - June 7, 2006

Latino Producers Academy
August 8 – 18, 2006 Tucson, AZ
Application Deadline – June 7, 2006

A NALIP National signature program, in association with UCLA School of Theater, Film and TV Professional Certificate Program and the University of Arizona Department of Media Arts, Time Warner, Nielsen Media Research, Southwest Airlines and the Rockefeller Foundation

A documentary or narrative feature Producer is the person who causes a film to be made, and made well. NALIP believes that a Producer is the creative originator of films, a self-starter who recognizes ideas that have creative or commercial merit. Producers must have passion, a sensitivity for story and audience, plus the organizational ability and practical smarts to put together a project and guide it to and through the marketplace. The goal of NALIP’s Latino Producers Academy is to give our Fellows the practical skills and knowledge to accomplish their personal goals and artistic dreams as filmmakers.

The LPA Invites Applications from Documentary Producers in two categories:
Documentary producer/directors in development or production who have proposals and sample tapes, invited with their producer/director partners Documentary producers in post-production, who have rough cuts, invited with their editors

The LPA Invites Applications from Narrative Feature Producers in two categories:
Feature producers (including producer/directors or producer/writers) in development who have viable scripts ready for packaging and advancement towards production
Feature producers and their directors who have scripts in advanced stages of development with or ready to package (e.g. budget, executive summary, attachments)

The 2006 LPA includes hands-on practicum for Producers at all stages of their professional development. Documentaries in post-production will have opportunities to re-cut and score sequences with intensive mentoring on their rough cuts and completion plans. Feature projects with directors will work with crews and casts to rehearse, shoot, cut and score scenes from their upcoming production. Documentary and Feature projects in development will benefit from comprehensive skills development with an opportunity to return with a rough cut or director in a future year.

This program is competitive and highly selective. It is open exclusively to NALIP members, and only to filmmakers with produced work on which they played a key creative role. All Accepted Fellows are invited on full scholarship: materials, lodging, meals and local transportation provided by our supporters, plus honoraria for documentary editors. Applications are evaluated by a professional panel that considers the viability of each project, the type and quality of your prior work, your creative plans and commitment to a career in producing & media leadership, plus your potential to benefit from the Academy curriculum and opportunity.

The 2006 Latino Producers Academy is made possible by the generous support of:
Access Tucson; the AMPAS Foundation; ASU; Cox Communications; FedEX-Kinko’s; Ford Foundation; FOX Broadcasting; Hanson Arizona Film Institute; Hollywood Foreign Press Association; Latino Public Broadcasting; The John D. and Catherine T. Ginger Rogers and Katherine Hepburn in Stage Door.

Katherine Hepburn stars as Terry Randall, a New York socialite determined to
become a legitimate actress on the Broadway stage. She puts up at the
Footlights Club, a boarding house for would-be actresses (played by a cast
that includes several Hollywood legends: Ginger Rogers, Eve Arden, a very
young Lucille Ball and an even younger Ann Miller). As the girls wisecrack
their way through bit parts and chorus girl jobs, Terry struggles to make it
on her own, independent of her family connections. When tragedy strikes,
each of the young women learn that the theatre is about much more than fame
and fortune. Both funny and poignant, this film is a rare piece of movie
history!

BORDERLANDS THEATER TO PRESENT THE PLAY EL DESEO/ DESIRE BY VÍCTOR HUGO RASCÓN BANDA, MAY 25- JUNE 4, & JUNE 15-18 AT BEOWULF ALLEY THEATRE, 11 SOUTH 6TH AVENUE.

What happens when love, and sexual desire intertwine with profound differences in age, culture, class, and language?  Rascon Banda’s play El Deseo/ Desire explores the theme through the relations between Susan, a middle-aged American college professor and Víctor, her young working-class Colombian lover.  This emotionally charged work has had a very successful season (more than  200 shows) in Mexico and has toured to Paris, France. In the fall, it will return to Europe via Madrid and Marseille.

Borderlands Theater will present the first bilingual version of the play, which was originally written in Spanish. The translation is accessible to monolingual audiences and will underscore the importance of the differences in language between the characters Susan and Victor.

Directed by Eva Tessler, whose credits include the critically acclaimed play Living Out (Borderlands Theater, 2005), Deseo/ Desire’s cast includes well-known Tucson actress Carlisle Ellis and Mexican actor Victor Carpinteiro. Ellis was last seen in Live Theater Workshops successful production of A Perfect Ganesh.  This is Carpinteiro’s first appearance in Tucson, but local audiences can sample his work from the many films he has appeared in, such as “Gringo Viejo”, “Danzon”, “Once upon a Time in Mexico”, and “Collateral Damage.” Carpinteiro also enjoys a successful career as a stage actor and several of the productions he has been a part of have toured nationally (Mexico) and internationally. Awards include AMCT Best New Actor (1987) and Jose Galvez Award for Best Supporting Actor.

Víctor Hugo Rascón Banda (Playwright), one of Mexico’s most prolific and widely produced playwrights, in 2003 alone, had four productions playing at the same time in Mexico City where he currently lives, has received many national and international awards and honors for his plays and films including two Ariel’s (Mexico’s “Oscars)” for the film Dias Dificiles.  Víctor is currently Executive Director of SOGEM, (The Association of Mexican Authors).  Borderlands previously produced his trilingual play La Mujer Que Cayó del Cielo (2000, 2005), Sazón de Mujer (2003), and last season (2004) produced a bilingual reading of Hotel Juarez.   Rascon Banda was honored by the international theatre community this year, as he was selected to be the keynote speaker at the International Theatre Day sponsored by UNESCO in Paris, France. Former speakers include: Sir Lawrence Olivier, Harold Pinter, and Richard Burton.

Tucson: Stephen King Movie Premiere at The Fox

APA Sponsors Stephen King Movie Premiere
at Fox Tucson Theatre

Saturday, May 6

Hollywood is coming to Tucson and you can be a part of the event!  Stephen King’s Desperation is scheduled to air nationally on ABC TV, Thursday, May 18, but YOU can get a first look at King’s latest work at the Fox Tucson Theatre in the First Magnus Auditorium on Saturday, May 6, 2006.

The public is invited to attend the movie premiere and the Downtown Saturday celebration on Congress in front of the theatre. Scheduled to walk the red carpet at the Fox are Director Mick Garris; one of the movie’s executive producers, APA member Mark Sennet and several of its actors, including Steven Weber, Annabeth Gish and Ron Perlman. The movie also stars Tom Skerritt, Charles Durning and Henry Thomas.

Desperation, a made-for-television movie, was filmed in and around Tucson and Bisbee in the fall of 2004, with assistance from the Tucson Film Office, the city of Bisbee and the Arizona Film Office. A portion of Congress Street downtown was closed off to film a scene from wartime Viet Nam, while the Tucson Convention Center was used for the first time as a sound stage for this production.

Quite a few of our members assisted in the making of this film. Set decoration was handled by Marcia Calosio, Tina Sims was key hairstylist with assistance from Claudia Breckenridge, Kate Jesse was the boom operator and Mike McGinn served as location manager.

APA is proud to support our local film community by being one of the sponsors of this event!

Get a taste of Hollywood and join in on the fun and excitement! Tickets to the premiere are $25 and are available by calling 520-624-1515 or visiting: www.foxtucsontheatre.org.
