LTW presents RADIANT VERMIN

LTW presents RADIANT VERMIN

by Philip Ridley

February 20 - March 28, 2020

When a young couple is offered an ideal house by a mysterious stranger, it prompts the question: How far would any of us go to get our dream home? A fast-paced, pitch-black comedy, RADIANT VERMIN is a provocative satire about consumerism, gentrification, and inequality.

“A blithely told fable for the age of unaffordable housing. Like a Brothers Grimm story, it is executed with its own consistent fantasy logic, deployed to remind us of the dangers of getting what we wish for…it makes for nasty and energetic fun…” - The New York Times

Tucson Improv Movement Upcoming Shows and classes

This week we have a special celebration of comedy in Tucson.  The Tucson Comedy Alliance is putting on their second annual Comedy Crawl.  There is amazing comedy shows happening all over town, and all of our shows this weekend are apart of the celebration.  We are so lucky to be right at the center of such a vibrant and supportive comedy community.  While I hope you come out to a show at our theater this weekend, please check out all the amazing live and local comedy happening all across town!  Check out this feature article from the Tucson Weekly giving a great overview of the event!

To rock the crawl, we have a couple special things happening at the theater.  The Soap Box has a returning guest in Mike Peel, from Local First Arizona.  We are so lucky to have such a passionate advocate for Tucson and 4th Avenue to tell the stories Friday night.  Then at 10:30pm on Friday we have the Beginners and Veteran's Stand Up Comedy show, with such a rocking line up this month.  On Saturday, we have the return of Carcajadas: Una Noche de Comedia, a night of stand up and improv all in Spanish.  It's such a special thing to put on this show, and bring comedy to Tucson in Spanish.  This is the only show, to our knowledge, that is happening like this in Tucson, and we hope it broadens the audience who come and enjoy the improv art form we love!  Then at 9pm, the Dating Scene premiers with a brand new cast and a brand new format.  This team has been working hard to bring the action in a new way, and for the first time ever they will be doing the whole show.  Bad Date, Good Story!?! Join us for a full hour of funny based on the ups and downs of modern dating.

Gosh this weekend is so packed!  While I am so proud of every we are doing at TIM, I would be remiss to not end this article with a big shout out to our friends at Unscrewed Theater!  On Saturday night they are celebrating 6 years on Speedway, so go and support them. We opened up improv theaters within months of each other, and I know it is an honor for both of us to bring strong improv comedy performances to the Old Pueblo on a regular basis.  The improv theater business is a hard gig, with small margins, so its an honor to share this town with another group of hard working people making this comedy thing work!  Heres to many more years of great improv in Tucson, and congratulations Unscrewed!

It's not too late to start your New Year's Resolution!

🎪🎪🎪

Hello! It's almost February, but I feel like the year just began! As the chaos of the new year settles down, it's still a great time to settle back into your circus schedule.

Remember that everyone needs to fill out a new registration form for the new semester!

A few reminders:

-If you eat snacks in the kitchen: Please clean up after yourself!!! Don't leave food and drinks around and if there are any crumbs or spills after you eat, please clean them up or tell a teacher! Please, only bring water to the studio!

-Please wear your hair in a bun! I've noticed that a lot of hair is down. It needs to be up for safety reasons, it gets stepped on, grabbed and caught in silks.

-No jewelry, its is dangerous for you and damages equipment.

-Please no zippers, buttons or anything sharp on pants/clothes. Sharp zippers, especially decorative ones on the side of leggings can damage equipment.

We will be reminding you in class and enforcing these rules because they are important for your safety.

ATCteen is beyond excited to present our first ever Shakespeare production! While still using the original text, ATCteen’s production of Hamlet is anything but traditional. The classic tale of revenge and grief is set in Industrial Revolution steampunk London. With a heavily gender-bent cast, this version of the Shakespearean tragedy is sure to be a Hamlet you’ve never seen before.

February 11* - 23, 2020

Made Possible in Part Through the Generous Support

Invisible Theatre continues its 49th Anniversary "Season of Love"

with Susan Claassen* in BECOMING DR. RUTH by Mark St. Germain and directed by Annette Hillman and Fred Rodriguez. Everyone knows Dr. Ruth Westheimer from her career as a pioneering radio and television sex therapist. Few, however, know the incredible journey that preceded it. From fleeing the Nazis in the Kindertransport and joining the Haganah in Jerusalem as a scout and sniper, to her struggles to succeed as a single mother coming to America, BECOMING DR. RUTH is filled with the humor, honesty and the life-affirming spirit of Karola "Ruth" Siegel, the girl who became "Dr. Ruth" – America's most famous sex-therapist.

(*Member of Actors' Equity Association)

"The amazing actress Susan Claassen has become Dr. Ruth with her spot-on portrayal of this wonderful and charming sex expert!"

Assistant Producer of "Sexually Speaking with Dr. Ruth K. Westheimer" WYNY-FM in Manhattan

In 1956, when Dr. Ruth came to the United States from Paris, she learned English by reading "True Confessions". She says, it was her Dickens and Shakespeare!

In 1980, Dr. Ruth's trailblazing radio show on WYNY, "Sexually Speaking", had trepidatious callers inquiring about everything from sex toys to crossdressing. She became a celebrity for her frank and often humorous answers. As she says, "A lesson learned in humor is a lesson retained."

The play takes place in 1997 in Dr. Ruth's apartment. She remembers being at President Clinton's inauguration. Why? Because she told him to run for president!
