A message from Artistic Director Margaret Mullin

The New York Times has called Matthew Neenan one of America's best dance poets. During my career with Pacific Northwest Ballet I had the privilege to dance iconic works by some of the world's most prolific choreographers, and Matthew's Bacchus holds a very special place in my heart. I rate it in my top five favorite ballets I ever had the pleasure to perform.

I was fortunate to be an original cast member of Bacchus in 2019 and the piece quickly became a Seattle audience favorite. Set to the beautiful music of Oliver Davis, Bacchus is a rich tapestry of virtuosic movement and powerful emotion. From lively sections full of charm, to poignant moments that highlight our humanity, this ballet has it all.

This season it's my honor to bring Bacchus to Ballet Tucson. Mr. Neenan has been watching our growth and is granting us the opportunity to be the second company to perform this masterwork. It's also my pleasure to share an exclusive sneak peek of Bacchus from its 2019 premiere with our 2025/2026 Season Subscribers. It was deeply rewarding to dance this scene of the ballet, which really highlights Matthew's poetic expressiveness and superb musicality.

I invite you to become a 2025/2026 Season Subscriber now so you can secure the best seats in the house (with our Subscriber discount) to enjoy this exciting premiere and all of the inspiring ballets we have in store this season!
