The Roadrunner Theatre Company proudly presents

The Last Five Years

Music and Lyrics by Jason Robert Brown

Jason Robert Brown is one of the most exciting composers working in musical theater today, and Chach Snook and Jodi Darling are two of Tucson's most exciting vocal artists. Roadrunner Theatre Company is delighted to bring these talents together for its production of Brown's most beloved work, The Last Five Years, winner of the 2002 New York Drama Desk awards for both Best Music and Best Lyrics. The show will open Friday August 3 for a four week run.
The Last Five Years recounts the half decade love affair between Jamie Wellerstein, a hot-shot, Jewish New York novelist, and Cathy Hiatt, the "shiksa goddess" he's in love with — and it does so almost entirely in music. Its fourteen songs have been described as "jaw-dropping," "relentlessly enjoyable," and "among the great recent achievements of character delineation through lyrics."
Director Mark Klugheit acknowledges the difficulty of the score for performers — composer Brown himself called the task Olympian — but is convinced that in Jodi Darling and Chach Snook he has performers who can do it justice: "Jodi, who has dazzled local audiences in Godspell and other shows, has out-of town credits that include the national tour of Showboat and performing opposite Sandy Duncan in Oklahoma." And as for Chach, Klugheit continues, "he had a terrific singing and acting career in New York, including the national tour of Forever Plaid, and has wowed Tucson audiences with his performance as the student-rebel-leader Enjolras in Les Miserables and his many sold-out concerts as a part of the 4GENTS."
This is a show you will not want to miss; in fact, Klugheit predicts, it may be a show that you will want to see more than once.
Performances Fridays and Saturdays at 7:00, Sundays at 2:00, August 3-26 at Roadrunner Theatre Company, 8892 East Tanque Verde Road. Tickets $25 with discounts available, at last5years.brownpapertickets.com or 520-207-2491.
