GOLIATH
A STORY RETOLD

Premieres March 21-24, 2019

Artifact Dance Project presents choreographer Ashley Bowman's radical retelling of the classic biblical tale. Here we meet a Goliath for our times, a lonely anti-hero wandering confused in a dying world, seeking his purpose.  The contemporary choreography for Goliath is inspired by the supernatural sounds of music written and recorded by Zack Hemsey a recording artist, songwriter, and composer.

The world loves an underdog, and none is more beloved than David, a lowly shepherd boy who saves his people in a mighty battle with Goliath, a ruthless giant. But what if….what if …we heard a different version of that story? Who really was Goliath? What did he seek as he wandered a dark world full of possibilities? What if the story is retold for our times?  Along the way, in a timeless journey of discovery, Goliath encounters mysterious, mythic creatures of light and darkness, meaning and meaninglessness. Goliath eventually reaches a miraculous triumph through a final conflict with David, his powerful foe whose ancient past provides Goliath with the key to mending the world.
