Modern, hip-hop, jazz, and lyrical dances....
Pima Dance's annual Signature Selections performance, under the direction of Nolan Kubota, features student-choreographed dances encompassing many styles from hip-hop, modern, lyrical and jazz. According to Kubota, "I have more contemporary and hip-hop trained students than ever this year! The creativity of my student choreographers never disappoints."
In addition to student-choreographed dances there will be several new pieces from Kubota and adjunct faculty member Mirela Roza, who has been working with the modern dance students to create partner work by using improvisation techniques.
The finale is a surprise, but Kubota is planning an abrupt departure from his normal high-energy showstopper. He remarked, "I always make exciting and edgy pieces for Pima, and there will be plenty of that, but I wanted to play with something softer and prettier than I normally do—something sentimental."
