For Immediate Release

TUCSON PERFORMING ARTS TOWN HALL ON DIVERSITY, EQUITY, AND INCLUSION

As the Black Lives Matter movement has been amplified across our nation and through many industries, it is clearer with every moment that the arts play a significant role in this important, overdue conversation.

The Tucson Performing Arts community would like to talk!

On

MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 14TH, 2020 at 6:00pm

We will hold a virtual Town Hall with the goal to create a more inviting and equitable experience for all our local and visiting artists.

Experiences that local artists have had in relationship to racial bias will be addressed, followed by a discussion of action plans that many of our local performing arts leaders are proposing for their own organizations around topics specific, but not exclusive, to the performing arts.

Before we can talk openly, we would like to request that local artists, especially those that identify as Black, Indigenous, Latinx, Asian, Pacific Islander, or any non-white identity, engage with this anonymous survey linked here (before July 31st if possible).

It's easy for all of us to read stories about incidents that occur in New York City and think "but that's not here," so this survey was built as a resource tool for our local performing arts leaders to respond to your experiences right here in Tucson.

We are all at different stages of understanding our own inherent biases, and of having the language and other tools to address them, but as a community, and only as a community, we can and will work towards being inclusive, equitable, and above all, anti-racist.

We invite you, artists from all walks, patrons of the arts, and anyone else in the community who wants to witness and support this movement to attend the September Town Hall.

A precise web address to join the event will be released closer to the Town Hall date, so please keep an eye out!

Thank you,

Tucson Performing Artists for Change
