March 14, 2020, was opening night for HEDWIG AND THE ANGRY INCH. Sadly, due to COVID-19, it was also closing night.  Nearly two years to that date, HEDWIG is BACK and READY TO ROCK TUCSON LIKE IT'S NEVER BEEN ROCKED BEFORE!!!

Arizona Onstage Productions in association with SPARK! presents the Tony Award winning musical HEDWIG AND THE ANGRY INCH for performances only March 18 – 27. This production stars Jordon Ross Seibert, who previously won The Baltimore Sun's BEST ACTOR in a musical for his portrayal of Hedwig, as well as MAC Award winning Liz Cracchiolo as Yitzhak.  HEDWIG AND THE ANGRY INCH centers on an East German transsexual, "a slip of a girlyboy," who moves to America after a botched sex change operation. As the show begins, Hedwig is performing in concert and recounting her life story: childhood abuse, a disastrous marriage to an American soldier and, after being plunked down alone in Kansas, a doomed romantic and songwriting partnership with a Christian teen who becomes a rock star. Hedwig remains obsessed with this former love, Tommy Gnosis, and follows him on the road, accompanied by her loyal new husband, Yitzhak. By the end, our heroine embraces the fullness of her identity in one of the most electrifying rock musicals ever.

On that infamous Tucson opening/closing night, two critics were in the audience.  Here is some praise about this production:

"Hedwig and the Angry Inch, directed by Shana Nunez, is a masterpiece that accomplishes everything good theater should – art, joy, and the full spectrum of human emotion… I instantly felt surrounded by a theatrical experience. I was surrounded by the artistic projections, the stage set-up that felt like a fantastically seedy club, and the murmur of a crowd clearly excited to see the show. The anticipation and the pre-show experience were nothing compared to the actual experience of seeing this show.

The live band instantly gave the atmosphere of a darkly wonderful, underground club. One of the truly special things about this production was not just having a live band, but how good they are. They were enthusiastic, intense, and powerfully rock and roll. They instantly became another character in this already incredible show.

Speaking of characters, Liz Cracciholo as Yitzhak is a gorgeous revelation. Her mannerisms, musical stylings, and overall stage presence is perfection. She embodies this character with a brooding intensity that is mesmerizing and such a beautiful compliment to the rest of the cast/show. You almost forget that her character rarely speaks because she says so much with her non-verbal interactions.

Jordan Seibert as Hedwig effortlessly dances between the roles of storyteller, comedian, songstress, and actor. Broadway-worthy Seibert so deftly tells the story of Hedwig, a heartbreaking hero, in a way that had me laughing, crying, and clutching my pearls at any given moment.  The intimacy of Seibert's storytelling is positively spellbinding."  - Taming of the Review, Gretchen Wirges

HEDWIG AND THE ANGRY INCH WILL BURN A HOLE IN YOUR HEART– Let the Show Begin – Chuck Graham

"The show was powerful, both heart-wrenching and transformative, a stunning experience that turned the aggressive Tony Award-winning rock musical into so much more at the Cabaret Space in the downtown Temple of Music and Art.

From a stage set soaked in the sleaze of a tawdry nightclub where flouncy wigs and a ripe attitude define defiance, director Shanna Nunez took us headfirst into the tangled, angry, frightened and frightening life of Hedwig. That is where Siebert as Hedwig lifted this Tucson production into a raw and ravishing piece of anguished theater that feels as real as your own hopes to make more of yourself someday. The person he creates is filled with the armor of pretense and the trembling of collapse. Then desperation turns into anger, as the power of drag queen illusion is splintered by punk rock's demand for inner truth.

Also on stage is The Angry Inch band of Michael James Zimmerman, keyboard and guitar; Tucker Bungard, drums; and Taylor Bungard, guitar and bass, becoming a muscular physical presence. This band could not be better.  They BECOME another character in this emotional masterpiece."

HEDWIG AND THE ANGRY INCH has won countless awards including BEST MUSICAL: The Tony Awards, The Drama Desk Awards, The Obie Award and The Outer Critics Award.  Besides it's off-Broadway and Broadway life, HEDWIG has had successful productions in London, Australia, Brazil. Italy, Czech Republic, Canada, Germany, Japan, Mexico, The Netherlands, New Zealand, Thailand, and Turkey.
