A Shot Away:
Personal Accounts of Military Sexual Trauma
by Donna Fiumano-Farley
" My lawyer told me it was dishonorable to report a rape, and according to the core values, which are honor, respect and duty, how can I be honoring and respecting my shipmate if I'm bringing a rape allegation against him?." Panayiota, A Shot Away
A Shot Away was created from actual interviews with American military members who were sexually assaulted while serving our country. This play is not an indictment of the military itself, but of the epidemic of rape and other sexual assault within our defense organizations. All of the characters in this play were based on actual service members who excelled in their military careers and would have remained on duty, had they been able.
Winding Road is conducting two readings of A Shot Away: Personal Accounts of Military Sexual Trauma during April, which is Sexual Assault Awareness Month. We are partnering with both SACASA and UA's Consortium on Gender-Based Violence to bring you this important piece of theater.
A Shot Away is directed by Ensemble Member Tyler Gastelum and features a host of Tucson talent, including Molly Lyons (director: Angels Fall, The Time is Out of Joint), Erin Amsler (Birds of North America), Larry Gutman (Eight 10s in Tucson 2019), Callie Hutchison (Dusk), and many actors new to Winding Road, including Tanisha Ray, Stacey Posey, Shira Maas, Rafael Acuna, and Julian Cardenas.
A Shot Away plays two nights only:
Saturday April 9th at 7:30 pm
Friday April 29th at 7:30 pm.
Tickets are $15
Performances will take place at Rhythm Industry Performance Factory, 1013 S Tyndall Ave. There is plenty of free parking, both in the lot and on the street.
