Click the arrow to a classic video of the Carol Burnett in the original 1959 Broadway version of "Once Upon A Mattress," the show that made her a superstar. And, don't miss the Santa Cruz Shoestring Players production of this enduring Broadway musical comedy at CPAC April 13-23.
"Fresh, inventive and funny... with wit and sophistication, and more important, human feeling." – New York Daily News
"This production has something for everyone,"says Susan Voorhees, director of the CPAC production of Once Upon A Mattress. "It is charming, sweet, funny and a crowd pleaser. The musical score is wonderful. Our cast performs each number very professionally. Choreography, by Susie Brown, just adds to the fun. Musical director Kevin Hansen has brought the score alive. This show is a don't miss. So don't miss it!"
Many moons ago in a far-off place, Queen Aggravain decreed no couples could marry until her son, Prince Dauntless, found a bride. Princesses came from far and wide to win the hand of the prince, but none could pass the impossible tests given to them by the Queen.
That is, until the "shy" swamp princess, Winnifred the Woebegone, showed up. Would she be able to pass the Sensitivity Test, marry her prince and help Lady Larkin and Sir Harry to the altar?
With music by Mary Rodgers (daughter of Richard Rogers) and lyrics by Marshall Barrer (the "Mighty Mouse" theme song), the show based on the fairy tale The Princess and the Pea, is carried on a wave of wonderful songs, by turns hilarious and raucous, romantic and melodic.
"Just as all of you have enjoyed the shows we bring to our stage, I must say we could not do it without your generous support. I have followed CPAC from groundbreaking to the present and I can assure you that your donation will be greatly appreciated. You have my never-ending gratitude for that support."
