Subject: Lilies of the Field - Special Reception for Fran Jarvis

Theater lovers - if you are familiar with the movie, “Lilies of the Field” which was filmed right here in Tucson and the movie that won an Academy Award for Sidney Poitier, you won’t want to miss the upcoming stage production - - - well, maybe you will, but hopefully you won’t.

The show is being put on by the Red Barn Theatre Company and will run January 11 – 27.  Shows are 8:00 on Fri/Sat and 2:00 on Sundays.  The theater is located at 948 N. Main and regular show tickets are $12.00 and $10.00 for seniors and students.  This is a very family-friendly play and one you will want to bring the whole family to.

On Saturday, January 12 we are having a special reception and show.  We are recognizing Francesca Jarvis, a local actor who played Sister Albertine in the movie with Sidney Poitier.  For anyone that knows Fran, you know what an absolutely wonderful lady she is and this is an opportunity to recognize her for her contributions to the theater and to Tucson. The tickets for this event are $35 and will include heavy hors de’oeuvers, catered by Vel’s Catering Service.  This event will be held at the Dunbar Auditorium, 300 W. 2nd Street. Reception 6:30 and show at 8:00.  If you haven’t seen The Dunbar, you owe it to yourself to check it out.  The once segregated school for African American students is being renovated into a cultural museum.  It will be a Tucson showcase.

If you can’t make the reception, try to get to one of the shows.  Call for reservations (622-6973); the Red Barn is a pretty small “intimate” theater (about 70 seats).
