Tucson: Auditions for Student Film

Sent: Sunday, February 26, 2006 1:42 PM
Subject: [Tucson Actors] Auditions for Student Film

REPLY TO: rcoleman@email.arizona.edu

I'm a BFA student at the UofA and I am holding auditions for my film.
Auditions are being held This Monday and Tuesday from 7pm till 10pm at
the Center for Student Involvement and Leadership which is located on
the 4th floor of the Student Union at the UofA. I plan to hold more
auditions this Saturday  4th of March and Sunday 5th of March but the
times and location is still being finalized.

The film is about a martial arts student who is attempting to attain
enlightenment through meditation. Unfortunately his master's curious
granddaughter seems to make some kind of racket every time he is about
to attain what he thinks is enlightenment.

The film is a lighthearted comedy that will be filmed as both live
action and animation. The live action takes place here in the real
world and will be filmed on black and white 16mm. The animation will
take place in the student's head while he is meditating and will be in
color.

The parts I am looking to fill are the three main leads,

Masu the student looking for enlightenment.
I am looking for someone who looks to be in their late teens or early
twenties.

Lia the Master's granddaughter
I am looking for someone that looks to be around 8 years old.

Old Man the master
I am looking for someone that looks to be in their late fifties to
mid sixties.

I am hoping for Asian actors but will cast anyone regardless of their
ethnic background as long as the fit the performance and direction I
am looking for.

Filming time will ether be the weekend of March 11 and 12 or March 18
and 19. Times are to be announced.

If you would like a copy of the script or want to try and schedule a
different time for an audition I can be reached at
rcoleman@email.arizona.edu Please contact me there and not my Yahoo
address as I am unlikely to check my email there in the next few days.

Thanks,
Ron

"THE GAME IS AFOOT" IN ARIZONA THEATRE COMPANY'S WORLD PREMIERE, SHERLOCK
HOLMES: THE FINAL ADVENTURE

Before the crime-solving squads on "C.S.I." and "Law and Order," who was the
man who solved mind-boggling mysteries with almost psychic powers of keen
observation? Why, it's elementary-the one and only Sherlock Holmes! Visit
221b Baker Street with Arizona Theatre Company's Sherlock Holmes: The Final
Adventure. This world premiere by Steven Dietz, based on the original 1899
play by William Gillette and Arthur Conan Doyle, is directed by ATC Artistic
Director David Ira Goldstein and runs in Tucson from March 4 through 25 at
the Temple of Music and Art. The 2005-2006 season underwriters are I.
Michael and Beth Kasser.

Commissioned by ATC from one of America's leading playwrights, this new
Holmes adventure starts as Holmes and Watson investigate a chilling mystery
involving a kidnapped opera diva, a stack of scandalous letters from the
King of Bohemia and the seamy underworld of Victorian crime. Racing through
London and other European cities, Holmes matches wits with the brilliant,
alluring Irene Adler and comes face to face with the Napoleon of evil,
Professor Moriarity. Disguises are created, safes are cracked, and
subterfuge abounds as Holmes put his deductive genius to the ultimate test.

On adapting such a classic and familiar piece of literature, playwright
Steven Dietz commented, "This world is so rich, so varied, so wonderfully
complex and contradictory, that it makes for a very thrilling dramatic
palette to work from . . . It's my avid hope that I have done justice to
both Mr. Conan Doyle and his legion of admirers."

Sherlock Holmes: The Final Adventure is a co-production with Pasadena
Playhouse where it will run from May 9 - June 11.

Steven Dietz is the author of twenty-plus plays which have been seen at over
one hundred regional theatres in the United States, as well as off-Broadway.
International productions have been seen in England, Japan, Germany, France,
Australia, Sweden, Russia, Slovenia, Argentina, Peru, Singapore and South
Africa. His work has been translated into seven languages. This is the
sixth play by Mr. Dietz to premiere at ATC, following Private Eves, Rocket
Man, Inventing van Gogh, Dracula (adapted from Bram Stoker) and Over the
Moon (adapted from P.G. Wodehouse). Mr. Dietz received the 2002 Kennedy
Center Fund for New American Plays Award for his play Fiction, produced
off-Broadway by the Roundabout Theatre Company; the PEN USA West Award in
Drama for Lonely Planet; and the Yomuiri Shimbun Award (the Japanese
"Tony") for his adaptation of Shusaku Endo's novel, Silence. Other widely
produced plays include God's Country, The Nina Variations, Still Life with
Iris, Trust, Halcyon Days, Ten November, and Handing Down the Names. His
award-winning stage adaptations include Force of Nature (from Goethe), The
Rememberer (from Joyce Simmons Cheeka), Paragon Springs (from Ibsen) and,
with Allison Gregory, Go, Dog. Go! (from P.D. Eastman). His latest play,
the Pulitzer-nominated Last of the Boys, ran earlier this season at
Steppenwolf Theatre in Chicago.

David Ira Goldstein is directing his eighth world premiere of a play by
Steven Dietz. (Painting it Red, God's Country, Dracula, Private Eyes, Rocket
Man, Inventing van Gogh, Over the Moon, Sherlock Holmes: The Final
Adventure). Mr. Goldstein has been artistic director of Arizona Theatre
Company since 1992, and he has directed over thirty mainstage productions
for ATC ranging from classics to new plays to musicals. As artistic
director, he has produced over 130 other mainstage plays, workshops and
presentations including two acclaimed appearances by the Royal National
Theatre of Great Britain.

Playing the inimitable Sherlock Holmes is Mark Capri, who was last seen at
ATC as Morrell in Candida. Recent credits include Henry Higgins in My Fair
Lady (McCoy Rigby Entertainment), Sleuth (Falcon Theatre), and A Perfect
Wedding (Kirk Douglas Theatre). Other credits include Arcadia and Terra Nova
(Japanese Tour) for the Mark Taper Forum, Light up the Sky and Equus
(Pasadena Playhouse), Die! Mommy! Die! (Coast Playhouse), Titanic (South Bay
C.L.O.), An Enemy of the People and On Approval (Theatre World Award)

V (The Old Globe), Noises Off (Marine's Memorial), Private Lives and Woman
in Mind (McCarter Theatre Center), Cyrano in Cyrano de Bergerac (Pioneer
Theatre), Cymbeline and Undiscovered Country (Hartford Stage), An Ideal
Husband (Seattle and Berkeley Repertory Theatres and South Coast Repertory),
M Butterfly and Present Laughter (TheatreWorks), Chee Chee (Actors Theatre
of Louisville), and Man and Superman with The Royal Shakespeare Company,
London.

Holmes' companion and chronicler, Doctor John Watson, is played by Victor
Talmadge, an actor, playwright and director whose roles have ranged from
Benedick in Much Ado About Nothing to Scar in the Los Angeles production of
The Lion King and The King in the Broadway National tour of The King and I.
Mr. Talmadge boasts extensive film and television credits. He has worked
with such notable directors as Francis Ford Coppola, William Friedkin, David
Fincher, Michael Apted and Chantal Ackerman, among others. His play, The
Gate of Heaven, was awarded The Nakashima Peace Prize and has been produced

artistic director of The Victory Project, a collaborative event with the NYC
school system, Columbia University graduate theater students, and
professional theater artists, created as a response to the tragedy of 9/11.

Returning to ATC is Laurence Ballard (Professor Moriarty), who was last seen
at ATC as Jaques in As You Like It. His other ATC credits include M.
Butterfly, Shadowlands, and The Old Matador. Nationally, he has worked at

Tucson: Borderlands Theater presents COYOLXAUHQUI REMEMBERS

PRESS RELEASE
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

BORDERLANDS THEATER TO PRESENT THE DANCE/DRAMA COYOLXAUHQUI REMEMBERS, MARCH
17 & 18, 2006 AT PIMA COMMUNITY COLLEGE CENTER FOR THE ARTS PROSCENIUM
THEATRE, 2202 W. ANKLAM ROAD.

“…strongly physical theater by gifted professional with imagination and
wit…stunning projected video by Garcia Davis…”
-Jennifer Noyer, Albuquerque Journal

“Coyolxauhqui ReMembers”, the new work by the Latina Dance Project (LDP),
reinterprets the Aztec myth of the Moon Goddess Coyolxauhqui through a full
evening dance-theater piece that blends dance (contemporary, indigenous
based, and aerial), music, text, and video. “Coyolxauhqui” comes to Tucson
after a very successful World Premiere at the National Hispanic Cultural
Center in Albuquerque (NM), January 20 & 21, 2006. The work will continue
touring nationally and internationally: subsequent presentations include
Greensboro (NC) and the Dance Festival of Almada in Portugal.

This myth recounts the story of Coyolxauhqui, who, fearing something evil
was developing within her pregnant mother’s womb, attempted to kill her
mother, the Earth Goddess. The fetus, Huitzilopochtli, sprang forth from
the womb as a grown warrior, dismembering his sister. To appease his
grieving mother, the new War God threw Coyolxauhqui’s remains into the sky,
where she became the phases of the moon. This interpretation comes from a
patriarchal lens, portraying Coyolxauhqui as a traitor who deserved her
fate. The Latina Dance Project (LDP) is reinterpreting this myth from a
Latina/feminist viewpoint in order to recover Coyolxauhqui’s voice. It is a
myth about oppression and violence against women, but it is also a story
about empowerment through action.

In “Coyolxauhqui ReMembers,” audiences will see four stories: Coyolxauhqui
as a young woman whose dreams haunt her; a Brazilian professional woman who
is conflicted over her own self-empowerment; an immigrant who re-assembles
herself through plastic surgery and fashion; a young Mexican maquiladora
(factory) worker who meets her fate in Juarez, where more than 300 women
have been murdered over the last ten years.

The Latina Dance Project (LDP) is a group of four nationally recognized
Latina dance artists—Licia Perea (CA), Eluza Santos (NC), Juanita Suarez
(NY), and Eva Tessler (AZ)—that explores the unique, dynamic, and passionate
voices of the hybrid cultures of Brazil, Mexico, and the United States
through concert performance, scholarship, and research. It was founded in
2002 as the rising voice of a new aesthetic in contemporary dance-theater,
having toured nationally since its inception. The LDP artists have shared
their own solo pieces with audiences through successful performances under
the concert title “Embodying Borders”, which has been seen in Tucson in
2004. The group has also conducted residencies with master classes, lecture
demonstrations, and research panels. It is important for LDP to focus on
the contemporary expression of the underrepresented Latina experience, and
it tries to reach out to the Latino/Hispanic community, particularly to the
emerging performing artist within that community, so that she/he is awakened
to the rich sources for artistic creation found in their own cultural roots.

Furthermore, through the solo performances of “Embodying Borders” and
other residency activities, LDP shares its work with those interested in
learning more about Latina culture and challenges stereotypical notions of
what this culture is about.

Coyolxauhqui ReMembers is directed by José García Davis. Choreography and
texts by LDP: Licia Perea, Eluza Santos, Juanita Suárez and Eva Tessler.
Additional texts courtesy of Víctor Hugo Rascón Banda. Original score by
William Campbell. Video by José García Davis. Costumes by Anne Closs-Farley.

Sets and properties by Alicia and Jason Adams. Lighting design Wouter
Feldbusch.

Hi Bill,

Trading Spaces, the home decoration show on TLC, is shooting 2 episodes in the Tucson area and we’re looking for fun, outgoing, interesting homeowners (even renters if they can get permission from their landlords) to appear on the show.  We tend to call theatres when researching a city because it’s often where we find our best guests for the show!   We’re in our sixth season now and the network is trying to freshen it up.   We’re looking for lively, extroverted, quirky folks.   I’ve attached more information including our general flier explaining the requirements, premise of the show, and how to apply as well as the actual application.  The due date for applications is Saturday February 25 so it is quickly approaching!  I’ve heard you’re the man with the list serve and would be so grateful if you could get something out there.  Feel free to forward any of the attachments.   Any help you can offer is greatly appreciated.  If you have any questions feel free to call me.  Thanks again!

BACKGROUND: TRADING SPACES, produced by Banyan Productions, provides two neighbors with the budget, a professional designer, a carpenter, and 48 hours to redo a room of their choice.  But there’s a catch - they have to switch houses, and they have no say in how their own room will look.  Before work begins, neighbors write down how they’d like to redo their friends’ rooms; the designers receive these comments along with pictures and room measurements.  Then, as soon as they switch house keys, the teams roll up their sleeves and get to work.  After two days of grueling work, the rooms are totally transformed.  Each team returns to their own home to see what’s become of their room.  How will they react to their new room?
