The Fireside Chats with FDR

June 29 to July 1 and July 4

On March 12, 1933, Franklin Roosevelt took to the airwaves at the height of the banking crisis to talk to the American people.  His goal was to urge the populace to have faith in the banking system and support his New Deal measures.  This was the first in a series of 30 "Fireside Chats."

The "Fireside Chats" covered topics such as the Declaration of War with Japan, the US economic conditions, the Work Relief Program and the progress of the war.  He used a simple and direct conversational style that connected strongly with the American people.  He continued the "chats" until June 12, 1944.

James Mitchell Gooden has constructed a show based on these "Fireside Chats."  Interwoven with personal anecdotes, he reveals the wit and wisdom of our 32nd president.  The result is a show filled with history, nostalgia, humor and patriotism, the perfect fair for the 4th of July weekend.

The Fireside Chats with FDR runs June 29th to July 1st and July 4th at The Comedy Playhouse.  Note that an extra matinee has been added on Wednesday July 4th.

Performances will be Friday and Saturday evenings at 7:30pm and Sunday afternoon and Wednesday afternoon at 3:00pm.   Admission is $18.00 with discounts available for seniors and students.

Also Coming in July…

The Comedy Genius of

Montague Glass

Opens July 20

The Comedy Genius of Montague Glass opens July 20th at The Comedy Playhouse.

Montague Glass burst like a meteor on the literary scene.  After six weeks during which his stories were published in The Saturday Evening Post, the question everyone was asking was "Did you read the latest story by Montague Glass?"  Without warning, a. shy lawyer from Manhattan had captured the nation's fancy. He did it with his characters, Abe Potash and Morris Perlmutter

Potash and Perlmutter were partners in a cloak and garment business in New York.  Abe Potash handled sales and distribution, while Morris Perlmutter was in charge of design and manufacturing.  Never far from bankruptcy, Abe and Morris maneuvered their firm through the traps and pitfalls of the New York garment district.

Their adventures were humorous, but their stories interested the country for another reason.  Abe and Morris represented the rising success of a class of immigrants. Americans were beginning to look past stereotypes.  Abe and Morris were clearly defined characters; each had their own quirks and comic weakness to generate humor.

Enjoy Tony Eckstat, Butch Lynn and Bruce Bieszki as they present The Comedy Genius of Montague Glass.  The Comedy Genius of Montague Glass runs July 20th to July 29th at The Comedy Playhouse. Performances will be Friday and Saturday evenings at 7:30pm and Sunday afternoon at 3:00pm. Admission is $18, with discounts available for seniors and students.
