AUDITIONS
ARIZONA ROSE OPERA COMPANY
FALL PRODUCTION: Hansel and Gretel by Engelbert Humperdinck
The Arizona Rose Opera Company will be holding another round of auditions on
Saturday, July 29th
from 12pm to 1pm for our upcoming production of Hansel and Gretel
This is an open call for all singers with operatic training.
Auditions will be held at the
Arizona Rose Theatre in the Tucson Mall
(Lower Level by Macy's and across from the Container Store)
ROLES NEEDED:
Peter (Father): Baritone. Father of Hansel and Gretel, a local broom maker who works hard and loves his family.
Hansel: Mezzo soprano. Young boy, older brother to Gretel. Must be able to move well and dance. Doesn't always think things through--very carefree.
Please come with a short (approx. 32 bars) operatic selection in English. The selection may be from Hansel and Gretel.
Auditions will be acapella, but you may bring an accompaniment track on a phone, ipod or CD if you prefer.
Hansel and Gretel is a classic fairy tale opera about two young siblings who lose their way in the forest. This production is set during the Great depression, and incorporates elements of magical realism. After meeting a grizzled mountain man (The Sandman) and an effervescent pixie (The Dew Fairy), the children encounter the evil Gingerbread Witch. But of course this fairytale has a happy ending, and after the witch is defeated the children reunite with their parents.
***All singers are offered a small stipend. Show dates are September 29, 30, and October 1st. Please email katescallysoprano@gmail.com with any questions and to schedule an audition slot.
