Subject: Ballet Tucson announces 2017/18 Season!

It is with great pleasure that we present our 2017-2018 schedule of performances.  Ballet Tucson has added some fresh and exciting talent to an already superb roster of dancers.

For the Season Opener/Fall Concert (Balanchine & More), Founding Artistic Director Mary Beth Cabana has selected an exciting triple bill of works:

  • Walpurgisnacht Ballet (Ballet Tucson premiere) - Ballet Tucson offers its 2nd work by the immortal genius and foremost dance maker of the 20th century, George Balanchine. This enduring ballet is a joyous revelry set to excerpts from Gounod's Faust.
  • Phantom of the Opera - Murder and mayhem are the order of the day at the Paris Opera in Ballet Tucson's wildly popular, original work-loosely based on the 1925 silent film; choreography by Chieko Imada, Mary Beth Cabana, and Daniel Precup.
  • Paquita - Grand Pas Classique - A cornerstone of classical ballet repertoire, Paquita displays Spanish-style dance infused with bold expression, technical virtuosity and spirited music by Ludwig Minkus.

New this season is Footprints at The Fox. Come cheer on the next generation of dance makers at the historic Fox Theatre with engaging, new works from our professional company.  Innovative, entertaining, moving and suitable for the entire family!

For the Christmas season, the company's annual presentation of The Nutcracker is the "must-see" holiday event for the entire family.  Ballet Tucson's production of the beloved classic is the most elaborate in all of Southern Arizona, and performances will be presented December 22 – 24 on the grand stage of the Tucson Music Hall.

For the Winter Concert, Ballet Tucson continues its collaboration with the Tucson Desert Song Festival to present "Bernstein & Ballet" – the program will include:

  • West Side Story (premiere) – As the finale to the festival-wide celebration of Leonard Bernstein's 100th birthday, Ballet Tucson creates a fresh version of this universal tale of love, loss and hope.
  • Graduation Ball – Set in fashionable 1800's Viennese finishing school for girls, the headmistress invites cadets from a military academy to attend their graduation ball.
  • Divertimento in D (premiere) – This well-known Mozart work combines eclectic choreography styles to create an updated take on the Classic Period in which the composer's music was originated.

Spring Concert (Dance & Dessert 2018) - Back by popular demand, Daniel Precup's intense and passionate Carmen is the centerpiece of our end-of-season program.  Dessert tastings from favorite local restaurants and eateries make Dance & Dessert a true feast for the senses and a perennial sell out!
