About the Show

An original work by acclaimed physical theatre creators Wolfe Bowart and Matt Walley, artists in residence at The Scoundrel & Scamp Theatre.

Go behind the scenes of a sideshow alley and into the after-hours life of a carnival's beleaguered strongman, whose quiet demeanor couldn't be further from the feats of strength he displays for a living.

The largely word-free story weaves together clown theatre, physical comedy and finely choreographed music, light and sound effects to create a thought-provoking and sometimes hilarious theatrical piece.

Not intended for mature audiences.

"Smiles and laughs aplenty"

Tucson Weekly

"It's funny. Very funny"

Arizona Daily Star

"Here we find Matt Walley onstage alone with a handful of ... house keys, car keys, desk keys and probably the key to your heart"

Classes for Scamps at the Scoundrel & Scamp

We are excited to announce our fall offering of theater classes for ages 9-13 at The Scoundrel & Scamp Theater. This semester students can sign up for three classes: Foundations in Theater, taught by Holly Griffith (Rogue Theatre Ensemble) and Leora Sapon-Shevin (Dell'Arte International Graduate), Foundations in Acting, taught by Holly Griffith and The Magic of Theater and the Theater of Magic, taught by Wolfe Bowart (creator of OAF and Cloud Soup).

Foundations in Theater is recommended for students 9-13 who wish to learn the basics of theater through experiential activities, games, collaboration and storytelling. Students will learn about writing, performance, and technical theater. The course will cultivate a sense of dedication to craft, respect for fellow artists, and joy in performing. The semester will culminate in a showcase of student work.

Foundations in Acting is a small group acting workshop for high schoolers - focused on monologue performance and textual analysis.

In The Magic of Theater and The Theater of Magic students explore more than just how magic tricks are done. Through classic sleight of hand and illusions, students learn the principles of magic, of prestidigitation, misdirection, forcing, timing ... and other big words. And, of course, participants will be sworn to secrecy once they know how the magic is done!

Note: We've scheduled the classes so that if your 9 to 13 year old wishes to take both Foundations and Magic, we'll provide a snack between the workshops to keep Scamp creative energy going.

Our classes continue to grow in popularity, and we only have so many openings available, so please sign up as soon as possible to guarantee a spot.
