We Made It!

Another Month in the Books

Bring on February!
💖😆💘

We're still continuing to keep our doors shut and beaming the funny directly to your Zoom-enabled device. Absolutely 100% of our shows, classes, and workshops are all available online

We consider ourselves lucky to be able to connect with you through that series of tubes and wires and magic that we call the internet. And since we're all digital - you can watch a show or take a class from wherever you are!

By the way, how's it going with those New Year's resolutions? Need something to shake up your routine? Perhaps you'd like to join us in our commitment to make 2021 a year of FUNNY!

Start by joining our online Drop-In Improv class every Monday night between 6:30-8pm (that's Tucson time!). Come and meet people from all over the country and feel supported in a familiar setting – Your. Own. Home!

There is absolutely ZERO experience necessary. Just get ready to have a good time - and maybe find a new hobby that challenges you and makes you laugh.

If you're ready to take your skills to the next level - our guest instructors this month provide a wealth of improv experience you can learn from.

Improv duo Rolland Lopez & Rich Baker (AKA Rollin' In Riches) are old friends of the theater who will be teaching at our virtual classroom this month. They have years of combined experience and will help you refine your skills on everything from finding the Magic of Patterns to learning how to REALLY embrace the fundamentals of "Yes, And..."

Catch the full details and register for the workshops here!

Your Weekend Funny

With Special Guests at EVERY. SINGLE. SHOW.

Get Your Improv On
Friday 2/5

10:00am

🎶 Ten Minutes With Dawn 🎶

Every Friday at 10:00 am, we get to meet another AMAZING improviser from somewhere in the world! Come watch our very own Dawn McMillan be ridiculous and make up silly scenes with improvisers from everywhere! (PLUS some after improv interview fun!)

This week, Dawn's special guest is joining us from across the pond. We're excited to welcome Jon Nguyen to our show! Jon (he/him) is an improviser based out of Norwich, UK.

He has had improv training with Dogface Improv, The Nursery, Maydays, and Hoopla, as well as many coaches worldwide. And has taken the approach of trying all things improv, short-form, long-form, narrative, musical, theatrical, comedy, as well as various forms and has a good time doing all of it.

Jon now teaches for the Nursery/ Maydays online and enjoys imparting his brand of fun, connectivity, and inclusivity to anyone who will listen. He loves to hug, talk about nerdy things and laugh with wild abandon.

Jon also has his own Facebook page where he tries to let people know about the wonderful world of improv and also does his own series of 10 minutes sets and will do them with anyone who asks.

Find the fun right here, on the Unscrewed Theater Facebook page.

Saturday, 2/6

7:30pm
Family-Friendly Improv Comedy

We're continuing to stay safe through February with our (totally free!) online Unscrewed Theater House Parties! And we're inviting our friends from all across the world to join us.

This week, our very special guest improviser is Ethel Tan!

Ethel was born in Singapore and raised in Texas and Singapore. In her free time, she loves hanging out with her cats, painting her nails, and playing video games. When she's not busy doing those, she's hard at work at her day job in finance. She hopes to one day finish reading all the books on her kindle.

Ethel also appeared on Episode 7 of 10 Minutes With Dawn (our newest Unscrewed Facebook feature!). She and Dawn chat about improv, puppies, and the artistic process on our behind the scenes video 10 More Minutes With Dawn.

Register at any time and we'll send you the super-special secret link so you can join us on Saturday.

Rollin' in Riches

February Online Workshops!

Sunday, 2/21 - Rolland Lopez Workshops
Sunday, 2/28 - Rich Baker Workshops

Rolland Lopez & Rich Baker (AKA improv duo Rollin' in Riches) are our special guest instructors for February! We love 'em for their comedy chops and their teaching skills -- and, of course, their willingness to be frequent guest stars at our Unscrewed Theater House Parties.

They'll be teaching two workshops (each!) on two Sundays this February. Register & learn more below!

Sunday, February 21
Rolland Lopez Workshops - only $40!
All times MST (Arizona)

The Magic of Patterns!
11am – 2pm.
Patterns are magical, but they won't appear on their own. In this workshop, you'll work on finding them, creating them, and how to have fun with them in your scenes. This is a really fun and powerful tool to have on your improv toolbelt!

Let's Focus on You!
3pm – 6pm.
Do you want a little bit of personal attention? You're center stage in this workshop, where you'll undergo an assessment to help pinpoint areas and help you take your improv to the next level.

Sunday, February 28
Rich Baker Workshops - only $30!
All times MST (Arizona)

Cut to Acceptance
11am – 1pm.
When we judge, argue, ignore, or flat out deny our scene partners, the show suffers. We know not to do this stuff, and yet it happens all the time, even amongst veteran performers. In this workshop, we'll sharpen and work those fundamental skills that allow us to skip all that and cut straight to acceptance.

Callbacks In Improv
2pm – 4pm.
You can turn a show from 'good' to 'outstanding' with even as little as one well-placed callback. In this masters-level workshop, you'll learn how to recognize and capitalize on those moments in a way that's both immensely satisfying and hilarious.

About the Instructors:

Rolland Lopez has been teaching and coaching improv for almost 5 years. He loves teaching, whether it's working with seasoned players or introducing Improv as a brand new concept to beginners.

His core tenets when teaching is to fully encourage while helping to guide and push students one small step outside of their comfort zone. Students have to reach but it's within their grasp and that way, learning, and incorporation of concepts can be easily done.

The exercises in his workshops are created with the real world (or stage) in mind. Players walk away being able to immediately use the concepts introduced the next time they're on stage.

He is currently a faculty member at the Westside Comedy Theatre and is based in Los Angeles. He's available to coach throughout the city as well as online and can also come to your town!

Rich Baker is author of the book Improv Made Easier and host/creator of the podcast Improv Breakdown. He first fell in love with improv in 1999 in his hometown of Fort Worth, Texas. Since then, he's performed all over the country with The Second City, ComedySportz Chicago, Mission Improvable, and his festival headlining duo with Rolland Lopez, Rollin' In Riches. Rich directed the award-winning web series Third Shift for Stronger Entertainment. Follow him @RichBakerCoaching on IG & @Richbakercoaching on Facebook.
