Audition Overview
Actors of all ethnicities and gender identities over the age of 16 are encouraged to audition and all roles are available. For a complete listing of roles please see character breakdown below.
All actors should note the following:
For initial audition prepare 32 bars each of two contrasting musical theater songs (not from A Chorus Line). An accompanist will be provided and we will have a stereo with AUX cord if needed. You’ll be asked to sing the piece that showcases range and personality. If needed, you may be asked to sing a second selection.
If selected to return for a callback you will be asked to do a cold read and learn a dance combination, that will require you to be physically warmed up, so wear/bring appropriate dance clothes.
Rehearsal and Production Dates & Locations
Rehearsals start June 2 (Monday, Wednesday, Thursday Evenings from 6:00 - 10:00 pm and Saturdays from 9:00 am - 4:00 pm) at Arts Express Theater (Park Place Mall) pick up rehearsal July 29th; runs July 23-25 and July 30-Aug.1 .

Description: (Male - Baritone) All Ethnicities The director and choreographer of the show for which the dancers are auditioning. He is a stage veteran and thus can be curt and harsh, but he is revealed to be a caring and empathetic man who truly grows to care about these dancers.

Description: (Male/Female) All Ethnicities Zach’s assistant who teaches and demonstrates the audition dances. Zach's assistant.
Role Title: Don Kerr (#5)
Gender: Male
Age Range: 16 - 100
Description: (Male - Baritone D3-F#4) All Ethnicities Ladies’ man, married, and into cars, money, and women. Very sure of himself. All American guy. Cocky because he has worked with Zach before. From Kansas City.
Role Title: Maggie Winslow (#9)
Gender: Female

Description: (Female - Mezzo) All Ethnicities A sweetheart, little sister type. Dreamer. Fairly experienced dancer from California. A sweet woman who grew up in a broken home.

Description: (Male - Tenor) All Ethnicities Quite aggressive, determined, cocky, sure of himself, but likeable. Tap dancer who worked with Zach before. Experienced; flirtatious. From New Jersey.

Description: (Female - Alto) Asian Descent Experienced dancer. Married. Petite. A bit of a mother hen with a great sense of humor.

Description: (Male - Baritone) All Ethnicities Quite a smart-alec and has worked with Zach before. Very East Side New York. A sassy Jewish gay man who divulges his first experience with a woman.

Description: (Female - Mezzo belt) All Ethnicities Returning to the chorus after years of being a featured performer. She is having to humble herself to audition for the chorus again with younger and less experienced dancers. Previously had a relationship with Zach and it did not end well. Seeking a true triple threat performer, as she sings the iconic “The Music and the Mirror.”

Description: (Female - Alto) All Ethnicities Oldest dancer on the line. Confident, brassy, sassy, bratty and sophisticated. One of the more popular dancers; a humorous dancer who tells of her unhappy childhood.
Role Title: Bobby Mills (#84)
Gender: Male
Age Range: 16 - 100
Description: (Male - Baritone) All Ethnicities Flamboyant, funny and witty. Very sharp tongued. Covers everything over with a joke; had a very hard childhood. From upstate New York. Sheila's best friend who jokes about his conservative upbringing.
Role Title: Bebe Benzenheimer (#37)
Gender: Female
Age Range: 16 - 100
Description: (Female - Mezzo) All Ethnicities Very insecure about her looks and tries to be funny to cover her insecurities. Feels a little excluded but just wants to be liked. She is quiet, vulnerable and kind.
Role Title: Judy Turner (#23)

Age Range: 16 - 100
Description: (Female - Mezzo) All Ethnicities A tall, funny, gawky, nervous person. Warm and hopeful. Very awkward except when dancing.
Role Title: Richie Walters (#44)
Gender: Male

Description: (Male - Tenor) African Descent From Missouri. Enthusiastic, cool and very funny. Likeable and laid back man who once planned to be a kindergarten teacher.
Role Title: Al DeLuca (#17)
Gender: Male
Age Range: 16 - 100
Description: (Male - Tenor) All Ethnicities From the Bronx. Street tough, macho, and newly married to Kristine; very protective. An Italian-American who takes care of his wife.

Description: (Female - Mezzo) All Ethnicities Al’s scatter-brained wife who can’t sing. She is awkward, anxious and hilarious.
Role Title: Val Clark (#179)

Description: (Female - Mezzo belt) All Ethnicities Sassy, funny. A foul-mouthed but excellent dancer who couldn’t get performing jobs because of her looks until she had plastic surgery. A brazen, direct, attention-seeker from Vermont.

Description: (Male - Tenor) All Ethnicities Optimistic; first-timer; naïve but charming. Great dancer and All-American kid. The youngest dancer who recounts the time he told his priest he thought he had gonorrhea.

Gender: Male
Age Range: 16 - 100
Description: (Male - Tenor C#3-F#4) Latin Descent Introverted and slightly insecure but loves performing; only now starting to feel comfortable about being gay and accepted by his parents. From Spanish Harlem, New York. Friends with Diana.
Role Title: Diana Morales (#2)
Gender: Female
Age Range: 16 - 100
Description: (Female - Mezzo belt) Latin Descent A streetwise Latina who is a little bit tough, and eternal optimist. A determined and athletic dancer from the Bronx. Paul's friend, another Puerto Rican who was underestimated by her teachers.
