Every Friday, Unscrewed Theater's Dawn McMillan performs a new improv scene with improvisers and performers from around the world! This week, Dawn's special guest is coming to us from across the pond.

Please join us to welcome Jess Napthine-Hodkinson!

Jess is an improviser based in Glossop, England. She is the co-founder of Glossop Improv (with previous guest Sekki Tabasuares) and has performed and taught improv for 15 years.

Jess loves long pauses, moments of dawning realization, and helping others find the joy. Being an improviser with multiple sclerosis (MS) led Jess to set up Brain Fog Improv – a space for improvisers with unseen conditions to share, learn and connect.

Emotions are the key to great performances. Emotions are how you create an authentic connection to your scene partners and how you keep an audience engaged, whether you are making them laugh, cry, or wonder.

In these workshops, you will learn how to summon the seven basic emotions quickly and reliably so that every scene and every character is grounded, connected, and believable.

About the instructor
Dawn McMillan is an actor/improvisor/director/singer in Tucson, AZ, USA. Dawn is a member of The Unscrewed Theater house teams "Not Burnt Out Just Unscrewed" doing short-form, and "From the Top," who improvise musicals. You can spot Dawn every Friday on the Unscrewed Theater Facebook Page doing improv scenes and interviews with talented people all over the globe on "Ten Minutes with Dawn."

Remember that the Scholars, Professor, and Intellectuals are not who Shakespeare wrote for – he wrote for actors first and the audience (many of whom were drunk and rowdy) next, so let's join the party!

"The play's the thing," and we do mean play.

They are called "plays," and that is what we are going to do. If you want a serious look at Shakespeare's work, "Pray thee look not hereupon, for we seek silly here."

A bit about playing Shakespeare and faking Shakespeare. Secrets of thee, thou and thy, word patterns and tropes.

About the instructor...
Jon Benda has been with NBOJU for 16 years. He has studied and performed in improv, interactive theatre, classic theatre, children's theatre. Jon loves taking classes and has taken most of what Unscrewed Theater has offered. His greatest strength is in interactive theatre, and he has studied with Gary Izzo, among others. He wants actors to play at the top of their game.
