OPENING SATURDAY, JAN. 14th
Director Rhonda Hallquist talking about the production
Stones In His Pockets by Marie Jones
January 12th to February 18th, 2023 on the Mainstage
Hollywood comes to rural Ireland in this hilarious multi-award winner which ran for four years in London's West End. This off-beat, endearing tale in which two local Irishmen work as extras on a Hollywood film brilliantly mixes comedy with the poignancy of unexpected loss. Every artist with unrealized childhood dreams will invest in the successes and shortcomings of Charlie and Jake in this acclaimed production of Stones In His Pockets.
"It is clearly magical, this comedy by Belfast writer Marie Jones, dealing as it does with myths, memories, class and sex, with two actors who create a whole world on stage. The play itself not only sends up the delirious fantasy of film, it becomes a moving and heartfelt tribute to the imaginative power of live performance" - The Guardian
Stones In His Pockets is directed by Rhonda Hallquist and stars Keith Wick as Charlie and Stephen Frankenfield as Jake. The show runs January 12th to February 18th, 2023. Thursdays, Fridays, & Saturdays at 7:30pm, Sundays at 3:00pm, with a special Saturday matinee on February 18th at 3:00pm.
$23 General, $21 for Military, Seniors & Students, $17 for Thursdays and Previews
COMMUNITY IMPACT AT LTW
FROM YOUNG PLAYWRIGHTS TO THE PROFESSIONAL STAGE
Playwright Catherine Oda's NO OTHER NEMESIS is the culmination of her hard work in Live Theatre Workshop's Young Playwrights of Tucson competition for youth.
Young Playwrights of Tucson, a program in which 6th to 12th graders can submit their short plays and workshop them for production, is in the 4th year at Live Theatre Workshop. Catherine Oda, a young adult who first presented her work four years ago in the program, is now premiering her all-original production NO OTHER NEMESIS for the general public in a run that begins January 28th on LTW's Children's Theatre stage.
"I'm beyond excited to highlight Catherine Oda on our stage! Having Catherine as an LTW student for over 5 years now, she never ceases to amaze me with her many talents. When I created our Young Playwrights of Tucson project I had always dreamed that we would be able to connect to our community's youth and produce their original works. And the outcome has been OUTSTANDING! Catherine's writing is witty, smart, and downright silly. I can't wait for the Tucson community to come out and not only see her story come to life on stage but to also watch her be a part of it as she plays her very own original music on stage with us." -Amanda Gremel, Director of Children's Programming at Live Theatre Workshop
Catherine elaborates on her journey at Live Theatre Workshop:
"In the first year of Live Theatre Workshop's "Young Playwrights" program, I submitted a short play named NO OTHER NEMESIS: a show about superheroes, supervillains, and the power of friendship. I was lucky enough to be chosen as one of the plays to be actually performed, and I immediately fell in love with the program. One of my favorite parts of the whole experience was getting to work with a mentor throughout the entire process— I have gotten to work with multiple amazing mentors, but my very first was Richard Gremel. He helped me turn the slapdash first draft of NO OTHER NEMESIS into a short play I could be proud of. And, after three fantastic years in the program that inspired my love of script writing, LTW has enabled me to turn that first ten page short play NO OTHER NEMESIS into a full one-act musical, being performed by professionals on their stage! It's been a life changing experience, and I recommend anyone with any interest in writing join in on the fun with LTW's Young Playwrights program!"
