The Male Choir of Tucson

Sons of Orpheus–/ The Male Choir of Tucson, declared "Tucson's Ambassadors of Song" by mayoral proclamation, is celebrating its 35th anniversary. Sons of Orpheus was founded by Grayson Hirst with the aid of a University of Arizona Faculty of Fine Arts Incentive Grant award. Orpheus is a not-for-profit non-sectarian, non-affiliated, community-based choral organization comprised of men from all walks of life. Orpheus explores a broad range of classical and popular choral literature for men's voices from all periods and styles ranging from opera and musical theater, sacred

and folk music from many cultures to classic cowboy tunes. Orpheus collaborates with other arts organizations such as the Southern Arizona Symphony Orchestra,

Tucson Chamber Orchestra, the Arizona Balalaika Orchestra, the Arizona Friends of Chamber Music, the Tucson Symphony and Tucson Pops Orchestras, and the Boys and Girls Choruses of Tucson. Dubbed the "Chorus that Cares, " many Orpheus concerts are performed to benefit various charitable community support organizations. Sons of Orpheus has performed at the White House in Washington D.C., conducted concert tours of Germany, Austria, Hungary and the Czech Republic, presented concerts in Ciudad Obregon, San Carlos and Hermosillo in Sonora, Mexico, and concertized in Ireland, Scotland, England and Wales. Highlights of Orpheus concert tours of France and Italy included invitations to sing in Notre Dame Cathedral and at Saint Peter's Basilica, the Vatican.

Sons of Orpheus is a member of the Arizona Choral Arts Association and is supported in part by grants from the Arts Foundation for Tucson and Southern Arizona funded by the City of Tucson and Pima County and the Arizona Commission of the Arts with funding from the State of Arizona and the National Endowment for the Arts.
