Subject: Instrumentalists Needed for Rogue Theatre Production
AUDITION CALL FOR INSTRUMENTALISTS
FOR TUCSON THEATRICAL PRODUCTION
The Rogue Theatre is seeking INSTRUMENTALISTS for an on-stage
ensemble to play in this season's final production, "The Good Woman
of Setzuan" by Bertolt Brecht. We will use music composed by Brecht's
contemporary and friend Stefan Wolpe, specially arranged for this
production. The music is 'modern', rather simple, very text-driven.
It's exceptionally well suited to the play.
As Rogue Music Director, I would like to meet and AUDITION ANY
INSTRUMENTALIST who is interested in this and other Rogue theatrical
projects, but in particular I'd like to hear from people who play :
Viola 'Cello French Horn Clarinet folk instruments
The audition will include a segment of learning a short passage and
playing it along with a singer. Wolpe's music alternates between
simple accompaniments to songs and cooperative playing between two or
more performers. At the auditions, I'll be less interested in being
dazzled by technical skills than in a demonstrated interest in
collaborative music making at a high level. Theatrical experience is
desirable, but not required.
Auditions will be held at 210 W. 5th Street, in #3. This is the Rogue
rehearsal space, a large brick warehouse space on the NW corner of
5th Street and 10th Avenue. Times will be assigned between 4:30 and
6:30 PM on Thursday and Friday, February 8th and 9th and between 3:00
and 5:00 and on Saturday, February 10th.
If you are interested in playing in a show presented by one of the
Southwest's most creative live-theatre companies, please respond to
this message and I will assign you an audition time and send you a
more detailed description of the project, including known and
required time commitments. There is a stipend attached to this
performance.

Synopsis of Bertolt Brecht's The Good Woman of Setzuan
In this parable, the gods come to earth in search of a thoroughly
good person. They encounter Shen Te, a good-hearted but penniless
prostitute who, to muster sufficient ruthlessness to do good and
survive in an evil world, must disguise herself. Beautiful and
thought-provoking, this play also features a large ensemble and live
music. Performances run March 29-April 15, 2007
