BORDERLANDS THEATER TO PRESENT TWO READINGS AS PART OF THE BORDER PLAYWRIGHTS PROJECT.

The Border Playwrights Project commissions, develops and produces new plays through scheduled workshops and readings.

SCHOOL OF THE AMERICAS by Jose Rivera. February 21, 7 pm.

Set in the Bolivian jungle, Che Guevara is captured and held in a one-room schoolhouse. The village schoolteacher insists that she be given permission to speak to the famous revolutionary. Her conversations with Che -based on historical fact- are at the heart of the play.

 THE COOK  by Eduardo Machado. February 28, 7 pm.

Gladys, a young cook  swears to protect her mistress’s Cuban home when the family flees to the U.S. following Castro’s rise to power. For the next 40 years Gladys attempts to keep her promise as the dream of the revolution settles into a troubled reality.
