October Film Festivals in Tucson
You know it's October in Tucson when the local film festival season begins, delivering Old Pueblo audiences a bounty of handpicked indie films for one-time-only screenings.
We invite you to join us and them in celebrating independent films and filmmakers right here in Tucson.
Thursday, October 5 – Sunday, October 8
The 13th annual Tucson Film & Music Festival showcases independent and music-related films with a special nod to films and filmmakers with a connection to Arizona or the Desert Southwest.
Feature filmmakers Ari Gold, (The Song of Sway Lake), Rick Darge, (Zen Dog), and other surprise guests will be in attendance. And don't miss the Tucson premiere of the filmed-in-Tucson Cassidy Red, a female-centered Western shot at Old Tucson. Cast and crew will be present. For the full festival lineup, screening locations, and tickets, head here.
Friday, October 6 – Saturday, October 7
Tucson Terrorfest continues its 7th year as Tucson and Southern Arizona's only horror film festival, celebrating the best of indie horror films from all over the world, including a special 30th anniversary screening of the John Carpenter horror classic Prince of Darkness. Check out the entire scarifying schedule here.
Thursday, October 19 – Sunday, October 22
The 2nd annual Film Fest Tucson kicks off with a Desert Pitchfest Contest on Thursday and on Friday over 30 features and shorts begin to unspool. FFT takes place downtown in the beautiful 101 year-old Scottish Rite Cathedral with 2 free outdoor screenings happening nearby.
Special guests include filmmaker S.J. Chiro (Lane 1974), director and Slamdance founder Dan Mirvish with Bernard and Huey (joined by his 2 leads), and others. A Filmmaker Panel takes place Saturday.
And if you love made-in-Southern Arizona films, don't miss the 1914 silent Girl Stage Driver with live piano accompaniment by Jeff Haskell, the newly discovered 1930's Bisbee Screen Test and three short films from the 2017 UA School of Theatre, Film and Television graduates that are a part of the Shorts Program. Check out all the events and buy tickets here.
But wait…there's more. Mark your calendars for Wednesday, November 8 – Thursday, November 16 when the Loft Film Fest returns! It's too early to preview their line up at the moment, but you can check here for details as the dates near. The fest received a $30,000 grant from the NEA last year to take their festival to the next level so expect big things!
