Two Plays For Lost Souls
Construction Preview Opens Tonight @ 7:30!
Out of The Dust We Rise
This week has been nothing short of glorious chaos at the theater. Electricians madly energizing circuits, contractors chasing down doors, painters trying to work around floor installers, architects solving last minute problems on the fly. Our technical team has been coming in evenings to hang curtains, adjust lights, clean off the construction dust, and build and break down our set.
Two weeks ago, our contractors told us that there wasn't much hope of opening today. We still didn't have power anywhere in the space and we were gearing up for tech week. Construction dust was everywhere, so even if the power magically came on, our equipment would be destroyed. Our team began brainstorming alternatives. We investigated alternate locations. We even mapped out a technical plan of how we could light the show with four circuits and a bunch of extension cords. It wasn't pretty.
Then last week on Friday, light came on in the theater. We were able to limp through a tech. As more and more lights came on, we began to have hope, though occupancy was still going to be an issue because our fire doors have been held up in Texas, due to Hurricane Harvey.
Momentum built this week to a frenzy, as our team madly worked to finish drywall, install floors, solve around missing doors and map out a safety plan that the city could sign off on.
Today, the impossible happened. We received a temporary certificate of occupancy for our theater and lobby so that we can share our amazing show with you on time, even though construction is still ongoing!
While this weekend won't be the grand opening we wish it could be, we are pleased to offer "Pardon Our Dust, Pay-What-You-Will" previews (our official opening night will be Friday, October 27) as we scramble to make the space audience-friendly tonight. If you want to see what we've been up to, are short on cash, or love user testing, this weekend's previews are perfect for you, if you don't mind a little dust. There will be chocolate chip cookies, on the house (I'm baking them as I write this). Show up, call ahead, or reserve tickets online.
We have an amazingly agile, committed, and talented cast and design team who have superhumanly overcome many obstacles to bring you our show this weekend. We can't wait to share Two Plays for Lost Souls: The Yellow Wallpaper by Charlotte Perkins Gilman (adapted by Christopher Johnson) and The Love Talker by Deborah Pryor, with you. More information about this weekend's previews are on our website.
Thank you for all your support. See you soon!
