We're trying something new TIM fans, and we need your help to make it work!  With the conclusion of the second season of the Match Game, we decided to keep our short form show, Improv Throwdown, on hiatus and stir the Saturday at 7:30 pot.  We are going to start a new set of run shows in that timeslot, featuring a monthly headliner.

To kick it off, the Third Beats, Tucson's longest running hip hop improv team, will be the inaugural run.  August will feature fast paced improv, mixed with sweet beatboxing, and improvised rapping.  While I LOVE Throwdown and short form shows, it felt like the right time for us to shake it up, or off, as Taylor would say.  This new plan will give more spots to our house teams to be openers and get more shows in front of you, the audience. And we have some amazing headliners planned for you the rest of this fall season!

🎶🎶So come on down and check it out, before Third Beats is done and you'll have to pout.
The show is fun and you know its right, it's the place to be on Saturday night!

Return of the Mermaids

All Tucsonans anxiously await the monsoons every summer, and the best part is when the rains bring the mermaids out to party on Fourth Avenue.

Fourth Avenue will celebrate the sixth annual Return of the Mermaids on Saturday, August 10th with parades, performances, and a few surprises.  Merchants along the Avenue will feature mermaid-themed items at this family-friendly (before 9pm) event.  Attendees are encouraged to dress the part, so break out your seafaring finery!

Return of the Mermaids was created by Silver Sea Jewelry owner Lizzie Mead in 2014.  She wanted to stage a fun event to bring people out to shop at the height of the Tucson summer, a time that can sometimes be difficult for small businesses on the Avenue. She adds, "Imagination-driven fantasy festivals that are participatory and immersive offer an opportunity to connect with others and ourselves in a new way. Whimsy, creativity, love, and unfettered joy all create special bonds among the Merfolk of Tucson."

TIM will summon the mermaids Friday August 9th at 9pm with our signature show The Soapbox.  Storytellers Holly Hilton and Eva Alcazar Silva will be our "mermologists" for the evening.  Come dressed as a mermaid at get $1 off beer and wine all night.  Directly after the show, we'll celebrate with dancing and a late-night happy hour.  Our Best of Tucson-nominated team Friends of Make Pretend will help kick off the official event Saturday at 2pm with a fun show even the tiniest merfolk will love.

Wanna Tell Some Stories?!?

We are honored to hear the stories of Tucsonans every Friday at TIM during the Soap Box!  Each show features a monologist or storyteller telling five 1-2 minute stories, or a group of five different people telling stories around a theme.

We are always looking for "cool people about town" to come and tell us stories.  Are you interested, have you sat in the crowd and thought I can do that, tell some good stories.  If so sign up to become a monologist today.

Visit: www.tucsonimprov.com/monologist to sign up to tell stories at a future show!
