Dear Beloved Friends,

We hope you are doing well in these most challenging times. All of us at Invisible Theatre are physically fine and trying to look forward with optimism and positivity!

We are proud to announce that the Invisible Theatre is one of only several theaters in the United States that has been approved and verified by their state to reopen for indoor theatres.

This is a tribute to the tenacity of our staff, board and artists. Invisible Theatre puts Tucson on the map for being bold, brave and above all SAFE, while remaining true to our mission of keeping theatre live!

In our 49 year history we have never faced such uncertainty or imagined anything like the current pandemic situation, but we remain hopeful and continue our dreaming in imaginative ways - an IT strength!

In the words of Gloria Steinem ...

"Without leaps of imagination, or dreaming, we lose the excitement of possibilities. Dreaming,

after all, is a form of planning."

We have an absolutely amazing 50th Anniversary season planned. However, we know that things can change in a heartbeat. We have decided to proceed with the season announcement and adapt the "Season Subscriber" format. We think offering a "FLEX PASS" subscription will provide the options necessary to move forward.

The Invisible Theatre's 50th Anniversary

We are cooking up a delicious season of entertainment

IT will tickle your funny-bone, touch your heart

and ignite your imagination!

TRUMBO: Red, White and Blacklisted by Christopher Trumbo

Directed by Susan Claassen

Starring David Alexander Johnston and Damian Garcia

October 21 - November 1, 2020

When legendary screenwriter Dalton Trumbo stood up in the House of Un-American Activities Committee in 1947, he was thrown in prison and blacklisted as one of the "Hollywood Ten". Based on his brilliant and razor-sharp letters to friends, former friends, and family, Trumbo reveals how the author of "Spartacus", "Roman Holiday", and "Exodus" took on Congress, Hollywood, and the Red Scare – and won. It combines wit, bravery and true patriotism. Dalton Trumbo served time in prison for "Contempt of Congress.". He agreed: "As far as I was concerned, it was a completely just verdict. I had contempt for that Congress and have had contempt for several since."

"Positively sizzles with wit...sweet, sad and ultimately uplifting,"

GLORIA: A LIFE brings us a richly detailed tapestry about one of the most inspiring and remarkable women of our time. Five decades after Gloria Steinem began raising her voice for equality and championing those of others, her vision is as urgent as ever. Gloria's life's work and philosophy on the necessity of conversation as a catalyst for change offer us all a path forward in a way that only live theater can.The first act is Gloria's story; the second is our own, as the audience joins in a talking circle to share personal experiences. This inspiring and powerful event is more than a play — it's a celebration of human connection.

"The audience is in for a shakeup seeing this powerful, riveting, all-engaging play."

TINY BEAUTIFUL THINGS

Based on the Book by Cheryl Strayed

Adapted for the Stage by Nia Vardalos

Directed by Samantha Cormier

May 4 - 23, 2021

A celebration of the simple beauty of being human, this funny, uplifting and deeply touching exploration of resilience is based on Cheryl Strayed's journey as the beloved anonymous advice columnist for "Dear Sugar." Over the years, thousands of people turned to Sugar for words of wisdom, compassion, and hope. Sugar finds a way to weave her own life experiences together with the deep yearning and heartrending questions from her readers. TINY BEAUTIFUL THINGS is a play about reaching when you're stuck, healing when you're broken, and finding the courage to take on the questions that have no answers.

"...The collective humanness is the truly extraordinary thing!"

DIXIE'S TUPPERWARE PARTY

Not Your Grandmother's Tupperware Party!

June 12 - 13, 2021 Berger Performing Arts Center

This hilarious smash hit returns to Tucson, featuring Dixie Longate, the fast-talking, gum chewing, ginger-haired Alabama gal who is bringing your grandma's Tupperware party out of the living room and into the 21st century. Audiences howl with laughter from her outrageously funny tales, homespun wisdom, audience participation and uses for Tupperware that you never thought possible. For anyone who has ever felt like they don't matter, DIXIE'S TUPPERWARE PARTY is a southern tale of empowerment that leaves your heart a little bigger and your food a little fresher.

"I was laughing too hard to breathe!"

Heartwarming!

SECRETS OF A SOCCER MOM by Kathleen Clark

Directed by Nancy Davis Booth

June 22 - July 11, 2021

Three soccer moms (or, as they prefer to be called, "intelligent women whose children play soccer every damn weekend") take the field for a parents vs. children match -- sharing war stories about motherhood, marriage, and debating that crucial issue: should we let the kids win? This is a "winning" comedy that ignites a fierce desire for these extraordinary women to recapture their youthful good-humor, independence and sexiness, paving the way toward a better understanding of themselves, their families and changes they need to make in their lives. This "winning" comedy has heart and "sole"!

"A sympathetic and compelling comedy with constant laughs!"

What People Have Said About Being Back!

"Tonight we went to a local small theater and saw a real play. The small theater has done everything to ensure clean air, clean surfaces, allowing less than 20 persons so couples may sit together, but spacing is easily more than 6 feet. We were the only people in our row. Everyone had assigned times and door entry for staggered entry and departure so if you are anxious to get out, call the Invisible Theatre. Masks are required. A worthwhile cause to help as well." JoAnne Hungate

"What a fabulous treat it was to be going to the theater! I have to say I felt safer in the theater than I did in my own home. It was like a special screening for the chosen few! Thank you so much for all you did to make us feel safe and enjoy a wonderful play!" - Elizabeth Smith

"If you had told me I would be going to a play this past weekend in a socially distant environment, wearing a mask and sitting in an 'iodized air' room, and enjoying the heck out of it, I would have said you were crazy. Yet, there I was, at the Invisible Theatre watching an amazing cast perform wondrous feats, socially distanced. Yes, socially distanced without looking very socially distanced at all." - -Jennifer Johnson
