Take Time This Weekend

To Focus on YOU

It's time to shake off the week and find something that makes you SMILE.

Start Friday with some lightness and laughter on our Facebook page @10 AM MST. It's a new episode of Ten Minutes With Dawn! Every week on the Unscrewed Theater Facebook page, Dawn makes up a silly scene and chats with improvisers from all over the WORLD - really! Dawn has had guests all the way from LA to Bangalore (and lots of places in between!).

For an extra dose of laughter, grab the whole family for Saturday's Unscrewed Theater House Party!

You won't have to go far - just pop some popcorn and join us from your very own couch - all via Zoom!

Our guest tonight is also one of our amazing guest teachers! Scotty Watson joins us from his home in NYC. Scotty has been working in Improvisational Theatre for over 30 years as a teacher, director, coach & performer. He taught advanced sketch writing for The Second City NYC and is currently Head of NYC Faculty for Artistic New Direction's Workshops in Improvised Theatre.

We're so excited to have some totally made-up-on-the-spot fun with Scotty this Saturday @ 7:30PM MST. Register (free!) for the link to join us.

On the next episode of Ten Minutes With Dawn...

Dawn makes up scenes and plays silly games with one of our neighbors to the north.

Please welcome...Velvet Wells!

He is the creator/host of Y'Up, the international BIPOC interview-improv show, and also produces "Crooner," where he musically improvises made-up songs over his own backing tracks. Velvet is the co-founder of two successful troupes: The Dandies and OverDude, and the creator of multiple fun show formats.

Dawn & Velvet are here to start your day with a smile! Check out this week's show online Friday @10AM MST, only on the Unscrewed Theater Facebook page.

Family-Friendly Improv Comedy

If you've taken one of our ShowShops, you might recognize our guest tonight. (And if you haven't -- you'll have another chance on Jan 22!)

That's right, tonight's guest performer is none other than Scotty Watson!

Scotty is an alumnus of The Second City Canadian National Touring Company, and taught improv & advanced sketch writing for The Second City NYC. He is currently the Master Teacher & Head of NYC Faculty for ANDTheatre Company in Manhattan.

Scotty created successful improvisational theater programs for companies and schools around the world. His students perform in theater, on television, and in feature films and include an Academy Award winner.

Scotty also directs comedies for the theater. He recently worked with the Emmy award-winning showrunner of M*A*S*H*, Cheers & Frasier. He has performed as an actor Off-Broadway, on television, in feature films, and recently he had a popular series of TV commercials for the New York market.

You can read Scotty's blog where you can get improv tips (and maybe take an online class!) at https://www.scottywatsonimprov.com/blog.

Craig & Carla Cackowski

Sunday, 1/17

Cackowski Online Workshops!
11AM Be Your Own Action Hero! w/Carla
3PM Dr. Cacky's Improv Cleanse w/Craig

Back by popular demand!

You might recognize them from Second City Hollywood -- or donning mustaches on episodes of "Drunk History."

Veteran improvisers Craig & Carla Cackowski are back for TWO virtual workshops on Sunday, Jan 17.

VERY limited space left - reserve your spot ASAP!

Be Your Own Action Hero
Saying yes isn't just agreeing to the reality your partner is creating in the scene. It's also saying yes to actively moving the scene forward. This workshop focuses on making active, fun choices so you can avoid talking about what you're doing and pursue tackling what you're doing instead. If you have been in a rut or recently found yourself standing around onstage with nothing more to offer than being a talking head, this workshop is for you!

Dr. Cacky's Improv Cleanse
Is your scene work tired and sluggish? Are you falling back on the same tired choices and characters you always make? Do you need to get back to basics and be playful and strong again? If so, Dr. Cacky's Improv Cleansing is for you. He'll give you the improv equivalent of a high colonic, flushing the toxins of insecurity and indecision out of your system.

Friday, 1/22

6PM - 9PM
Online ShowShop!

He'll join us at our most recent House Party this Saturday 1/16.

And less than a week later, he's back! This time - to teach!

Scotty Watson is an experienced teacher who has created successful improvisational theater programs for companies and schools around the world. His students perform in theater, on television, and in feature films and include an Academy Award winner.

This workshop is inspired by the work of Elaine May & Del Close. You'll learn the basic principles of improvisation in a safe and supportive space - and then perform in an online show!

Saturdays @ 10AM

Starting January 30
ImprovBlox: Characters & Spacework

Improvise from the comfort of your very own home!

ImrovBlox: Characters & Spacework is a 7-week course that will help you delve a little bit deeper into some more advanced improv techniques.

Characters
You'll learn the building blocks for creating strong and memorable three-dimensional characters that can connect with scene partners and drive a successful scene.

Spacework
You'll learn tools to create a dynamic "physical" world that will propel you, your scene partners, and the audience into the center of your scene. Spacework is the essential language of great characters, group mind and successful scenes.

Instructor: Cy Barlow! Cy performs with Unscrewed Theater's Not Burnt Out Just Unscrewed & From The Top and with Tucson's nerdiest steel drum band, Apocalypso. And for the next 7 weeks, Cy will teach you how to create strong, believable characters - and how to create a "physical" world with nothing but your movements...and maybe a folding chair.
