Winding Road Theater Ensemble performs A Shot Away: Personal Accounts of Military Sexual Trauma by Donna Fiumano Farley on UA Campus
Play reading event in affiliation with Sexual Assault Awareness Month and #TucSAAM presented in coordination with local organizations
Tucson theater Winding Road Theater Ensemble will present a free reading of their current production: A Shot Away: Personal Accounts of Military Sexual Trauma. Monday April 18th at 7pm. This reading will take place on the UA campus, Room S107 in the ENR2 Building, located at 1640 E Lowell St, on the University of Arizona campus.
A Shot Away: Personal Accounts of Military Sexual Trauma by Donna Fiumano-Farley is devised from the real-life testimonies of United States members of the military who were sexually assaulted while serving our country. Centering on the 2006 suicide of PFC Tina Priest while stationed in Iraq, A Shot Away depicts the experiences of an additional six soldiers, both women and men, who suffered sexual assault while on active duty. The cast includes Tucson actors Molly Lyons, Shira Elen Maas, Tanisha Ray, Erin Amsler, Stacey Posey, Callie Hutchison, Larry Gutman, and Jesse Pickering, with a remote performance by Jorge, streaming live from the Philippines. The play is directed by Winding Road Ensemble Member Tyler Gastelum and produced by Winding Road Managing Director China Young.
A Shot Away is sponsored by the University of Arizona Consortium on Gender-Based Violence, in coordination with the University of Arizona ROTC and Veterans Education and Transitions Services, and in partnership with the Southern Arizona Center Against Sexual Assault (SACASA). There will be a panel discussion after the reading including representatives from the UA Consortium on Gender-Based Violence, SACASA, Children's Advocacy Center of Southern Arizona (CACSA), Southern Arizona Aids Foundation (SAAF), and the Pima County Attorney's Office.
Admission is free and donations are encouraged. Proceeds will benefit SACASA and Winding Road Theater Ensemble. For more information, see our website at WindingRoadTheater.org
