We have the playwrights and the rooms to lock them in!  Every year about this time Old Pueblo Playwrights sets the wheels in motion for an event that is like no other in Tucson's theater community.  We showcase short plays from OPP members on Friday night presented as staged readings.  During the evening's fun, the audience votes for props and write a line of dialogue which they also vote in to the mix.  12 playwrights are then randomly paired and sent off to write a ten minute masterpiece overnight, all using these props and this line.   The plays will be rehearsed all day Saturday to be presented on Saturday night as staged readings.  At the conclusion, the audience will vote for their favorite for Best Play In A Day to receive a cash award.  This year we also have an additional cash award to be presented by a panel of judges from Tucson's own theater community.

The Friday night plays this year include new shorts and some previous PIAD favorites.  Our playwrights this year are some familiar veterans of the event and some first-timers.  They hail from Tucson to Phoenix.   Our directors have a stunning list of credits and our actors are from near and far in the southern Arizona community.  Several plays written at Play In A Day in years past have gone on to full productions and to win awards in other competitions.

Play In A Day has become an annual Tucson theater tradition.  Zuzi's Theater and The Historic Y are making it possible for the event to take place in the auditorium at 300 E. University.  There is plenty of nearby parking and seating for 300.  This is  true interactive theater and Old Pueblo Playwrights is honored to host the event.

Don't miss the fun!  Reserve your tickets now!
